A few years later it was recorded for Warner Bros. The recording featured the Concordia Orchestra with Marin Alsop conducting and the composer as violin soloist. The recording was named by the BMG Classical Catalog as one of the top ten classical recordings of 1995. The composition was reviewed by a distinguished panel of composers and was awarded a Meet The Composer grant for another original concerto by O’Connor. Beginning with the premiers in 1993, and including the subsequent performances into 1999, the year of this publication, The FIDDLE CONCERTO has received more performances with orchestra than any other violin concerto composed in the last 50 years. Flute Concerto (2006) was commissioned by flutist Judith von Hopf and theKiev Philharmonic and premiered by them under the direction of GuidoLamell. The work is in two movements: Chanson and Fantasy Variations.The first movement, Chanson, is an extended “song†that develops through avariety of textures. The opening song material is centered around G#. In turn,this G# is revealed to be a quasi-dominant of a D centered sonority. (A briefcoda returns to G#, in preparation for the D center of the second movement.)The second movement, Fantasy Variations, is cast as two presentations ofthe theme surrounding five free variations, plus a coda. The theme serves asthe basis of the musical material for each variation as well as the structuraltemplate for each. Also, each variation contains material referring backspecifically to the previous variation.The opening theme is declamatory and massive. The first variation is fastand limber. The second variation is introspective and stratified. The thirdvariation is fleeting. The fourth variation is distant and spare. The fifthvariation is fast and driving. The final theme begins whispered and slowlyregains its declamatory nature before a brief and intense coda ends the workin a blaze.This item is the score and the solo part only. This is the first publication of the Jewish Dance for cello solo (arranged for viola solo) and symphony orchestra by Lev PULVER (1883 – 1970), based on the autograph manuscript of the orchestral score, realized and edited by Sergei Pichugin. The piece was composed in 1942–43 in the midst of World War II. Presumably it was never performed since 1950, being completely forgotten. Jewish Dance is definitely among the masterpieces of Yiddish musical culture of the 20th century. Introductory text to the publication, written by Sergei Pichugin, includes a short biography of the composer and a description of the Jewish Dance.

The movements, Call of the Mockingbird, Trail of Tears, and Fanfare for the Volunteer reflect on broad themes relating to the history and culture of the state. The work was released in 1999 on a cd for Sony Classical performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra titled by its final movement Fanfare for the Volunteer.Call of the Mockingbird; The evocations of nature and landscape. In the course of its many voicings (both literal and figurative), the theme evokes a broad range of images, from the bird of the title to the ruggedness of the Appalachian terrain.Trail of Tears; The tragedy of the forced migration of the Cherokee Indians in 1838-39. An episode in American history, the work incorporates aspects of Native American, Celtic and Central European traditions within the broader context of a symphonic composition.Fanfare for the Volunteer; The fierce and bittersweet pride of the southeastern United States. Perhaps, the clearest blending of O’Connor’s background as a traditional fiddler with his more recent work as a symphonic composer. The piece was composed in 1942–43 in the midst of World War II. Presumably it was never performed since 1950, being completely forgotten. Jewish Dance is definitely among the masterpieces of Yiddish musical culture of the 20th century. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723062). This is an arrangement by the composer of his Rondo in A minor (originally written for Guitar and Orchestra) for Viola and Orchestra. There is also a version arranged for Cello and Orchestra. In October, 2014, after my most recent commission, the creative juices were still flowing, and I felt the urge to write a work for guitar and orchestra (which I had always wanted to do, partly inspired by the memories Pepe Romero's performances with my orchestra forty years earlier). Amazingly, within two days I had, except for a few minor corrections, a completed work. The result was the Rondo in A minor for Guitar and Orchestra, which I dedicated to my friend, Sir Pepe Romero, with the greatest respect and admiration. In December of 2014, I realized the work was easily accessible for either viola or cello and created versions of the piece for solo cello and orchestra, and also a version for solo viola and orchestra. The work is rondo-like in form, but does not strictly follow all the rules. The form of the work is a kind of a musical palindrome: A B A C A D A C A B A (including a cadenza in the final rondo statement). The presence of castanets gives the work a bit of a Spanish flair. The piece is scored for pairs of flutes, oboes, clarinets in A, bassoons, horns, and trumpets in C; with timpani, castanets, and strings (8,8,5,5,3). Parts for clarinets and trumpets in B-flat are included in the set for those orchestras lacking clarinets in A or trumpets in C.
