This 4-part suite is called Serenade in A. This name, chosen by its author, completely exhausts the content of this music and emphasizes the main idea of the composition, as well as the tonality of all parts. Each part provides comprehensive details in this series and has its own title. I emphasize that this is by no means a programmatic essay. The nature of each part and their internal content pushed me to follow my interpretation of each part in the orchestral transcription. 1. Hymne is essentially nothing more than a Hymn of love! His character, sublime above the everyday, is, as it were, raised to the surface and presented in bright, broad strokes as an irrefutable truth. 2. Romanza - I perceive it as a kind of parody of a love romance with the main sentiments and elements inherent in this genre. This is by no means a refutation of love, but only some irony over the false, pretentious way of expressing this feeling. The grotesque character is emphasized whenever possible by the orchestration. 3. Rondoletto - this part, from the very beginning in my orchestration, resembles the multi-voiced play of musicians preparing to play, testing the sound of their instruments, tuning them and playing out. 4. Cadenza Finala - the nature of the music is the union and rapture of love. In my orchestration there can be traced duets of various instruments and orchestra groups such as: a pair of Flutes, a pair of Oboes, Clarinets, Trumpets, Trombones, 1st and 2nd Violins. This feature of the pairs I have chosen should emphasize their relationship and relatedness.

The first complete performance was given on 9 January 1904 in the Salle Erard, Paris, by the young Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes, who was already emerging as the prime interpreter of the new French music of Debussy and Ravel. The first two pieces were completed in 1903, but the third derives from an earlier group of pieces from 1894, collectively titled Images, which remained unpublished until 60 years after Debussy’s death, when they were printed as Images (oubliées). Estampes marks an expansion of Debussy’s keyboard style: he was apparently spurred to fuse neo-Lisztian technique with a sensitive, impressionistic pictorial impulse under the impact of discovering Ravel’s Jeux d’eau, published in 1902. The opening movement, ‘Pagodes’, is Debussy’s first pianistic evocation of the Orient and is essentially a fixed contemplation of its object, as in a Chinese print. This static impression is partly caused by Debussy’s use of long pedal-points, partly by his almost constant preoccupation with pentatonic melodies which subvert the sense of harmonic movement. He uses such pentatonic fragments in many different ways: in delicate arabesques, in two-part counterpoint, in canon, harmonized in fourths and fifths and as an underpinning for pattering, gamelan-like ostinato writing. Altogether the piece reflects the decisive impression made on him by hearing Javanese and Cambodian musicians at the 1889 Paris Exposition, which he had striven for years to incorporate effectively in music. In its final bars the music begins to dissolve into elaborate filigree.Just as ‘Pagodes’ was his first Oriental piece, so ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ was the first of Debussy’s evocations of Spain-that preternatural embodiment of an ‘imaginary Andalusia’ which would inspire Manuel de Falla, the native Spaniard, to go back to his country and create a true modern Spanish music based on Debussyan principles. Debussy’s personal acquaintance with Spain was virtually non-existent (he had spent a day just over the border at San Sebastian) and it is possible that one model for the piece was Ravel’s Habanera. Yet he wrote of this piece (to his friend Pierre Louÿs, to whom it was dedicated), ‘if this isn’t the music they play in Granada, so much the worse for Granada!’-and there is no debate about the absolute authenticity of Debussy’s use of Spanish idioms here. Falla himself pronounced it ‘characteristically Spanish in every detail’. ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ is founded on an ostinato that echoes the rhythm of the habanera and is present almost throughout. Beginning and ending in almost complete silence, this dark nocturne of warm summer nights builds powerfully to its climaxes. The melodic material ranges from a doleful Moorish chant with a distinctly oriental character to a stamping, vivacious dance-measure, taking in brief suggestions of guitar strumming and perfumed Impressionist haze. There is even a hint of castanets near the end. The piece fades out in a coda that seems to distil all the melancholy of the Moorish theme and a last few distant chords of the guitar. ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ is based on the children’s song ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’ (We shan’t go to the woods): its original 1894 form was in fact entitled Quelques aspects de ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’. The two versions are really two distinct treatments of the same set of ideas, but in ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ Estampes the earlier piece has been entirely rethought. The whole conception is more impressionistic, and subtilized. A double concert for violin and cello is difficult to find in the list of works of Russian composers of the 19th century. There are simply no such well-known works. I decided to take a chance by trying to do an orchestral transcription of the brilliant Arensky Piano Trio D minor op. 32, where the parts of the solo violin and cello remained in their place, and the piano part was completely replaced by the orchestra. Particular attention is paid to the balance of sound between solo instruments and the orchestra.

By means of the orchestra, as in painting, you can try to reproduce the whole mysterious picture of such an episode full of passion, nocturnal rustles, fear of being discovered by the family of your beloved and even the sudden opening of the window, but in the end, a hasty escape by flight, without finishing the serenade to the end.

The Florida Suite is an orchestral suite by English composer Frederick Delius (1862-1934). Despite the work's title, Delius actually composed this suite in Leipzig in 1887 after his time as manager of an orange grove in Jacksonville (Florida). 'By the River' is the second - flowing - movement of the 'Florida Suite. It's illustrating the gentle but perpetual movement of the 'St. Johns River' (on the banks of which was Delius's plantation). The calmness and steady rhythm of this movement guides the listener into a peaceful reflection.

Being played at the end, this composition can certainly enhance the program and leave a long lasting impression.

I have orchestrated this for a large symphony orchestra. Equally important is participation of a child of 4-5 years old as a soloist, who will be playing on the piano the main theme of Tati-Tati at the beginning and at the end.It all started as a musical joke from Borodin in a circle of his friends-composers: Rimsky-Korsakov, Cui and Lyadov. The joke turned into collective work which resulted into 24 variations with the finale paraphrasing Tati-Tati. I usually tell this story to the audience before performing. 24 Variations with Finale is an composition that is oriented for family and children symphonic concerts, when the educational part is of great importance for the young listeners to understand classical music, the sound and characteristics of individual musical instruments and groups of the orchestra, what development principles are used by each composer, etc. F. Liszt gave the best assessment to this composition.
