Alexander Rosenblatt, born in Moscow in 1956, completed his piano and composition studies at the renowned conservatoire of his home town. In his compositions, he combines classical elements with jazz elements to form an original blend of styles, a very characteristic musical language. He made himself a name as a pianist, especially in the piano duo with O. Sinking, a genre which then earned him great success as a creative artist as well: In 2001 he won a special award for his 'Modern Piano Duet' at the International Composition Competition in Tokyo.
In his 'Carmen Fantasy' Rosenblatt uses themes from Bizet's opera in a clever and witty manner, spicing them with jazzy rhythms and surprising harmonies - virtuoso fireworks for two pianos.

Endlich ist die Musik von Charles Koechlin kein Geheimtipp mehr, sondern wird sowohl fur den Konzertsaal als auch die CD entdeckt! Mit unserer Ausgabe prasentieren wir nun eine weithin noch unbekannte Facette seines Schaffens. Denn kaum jemand weiss, dass sich Koechlin in bereits fortgeschrittenem Alter dem Film zuwandte. Obwohl Koechlin bewusst war, dass keine Aussicht auf filmische Umsetzung bestand, entwarf er sogar ein Filmszenario in 20 Szenen, in dem er selbst in einer Doppelrolle erscheinen sollte! Im Alter von 66 Jahren sah er in einem Pariser Filmtheater die Schauspielerin Lilian Harvey als Prinzessin Marie-Christine in Princesse a vos ordres. Er war so verzaubert, dass er fur sie die kleinen Stucke Le Portrait de Daisy Hamilton komponierte - hinreissende Miniaturen, die nicht als Filmmusik geschrieben, sondern durch Filmerlebnisse ausgelost wurden.

Von den unvollendet gebliebenen, auf zwei bis vier Linien notierten Kompositionen Le Portrait de Daisy Hamilton sind bei Schott bereits zwei Hefte erschienen, nun publizieren wir erstmals einen Band mit Stucken fur zwei Klaviere. Weitere Hefte in anderen Instrumentierungen werden folgen. Mit den insgesamt sieben geplanten Heften Le Portrait de Daisy Hamilton werden Charles Koechlins letzte noch unveroffentlichte Werke aus dem Umfeld des Films endlich fur die Nachwelt zuganglich.

Nancarrow's music for player piano with .acrobatic complexity .that sounds .hardly performable has been known for more than four decades. The traditional notation is replaced by the accurate manual punching of individual holes in player piano roles, thus enabling multi-part sounds and rhythmic counterpoints in irrational relations which could never be played so accurately by human performers.
Fortunately, Nancarrow's less complex studies are again and again arranged for a wide variety of live instrumentation. The arrangement for two pianos by the renowned British composer and conductor Thomas Ad�.s (*1971) presents the ideal opportunity for every experienced pianist to not only listen to the studies but to play them as well.
