Various articles in specialized journals and sites have cited the composer, such as the Flutist Quarterly (Circus Brasilis - The flute music of Sergio Roberto de Oliveira), Early Music America (Something New for Early Music), Andante.com (The heirs of Villa-Lobos), 21st Century Music, Musicabrasileira.org, etc. Sergio Roberto de Oliveira has frequently been invited to lecture at American universities, and has spoken at more than a dozen institutions including Princeton and Duke. In 2009 he was Artist-in-Residence at Duke University. In addition the USA and the UK, Oliveira's music has also been played in many countries, with invitations for concerts exclusively with his music in México, Italy and Holland (Amsterdam). The Spanish Magazine Sonograma has published 2 interviews with Sergio.Sergio is the founder and a member of the group of composers Prelúdio 21. The group is one of the most active worldwide. It holds a distinguished place in Brazilian contemporary music, having been active for 15 consecutive seasons, with a permanent series of monthly concerts since 2008. In 2011 the group released the CD String Quartets, with performances by the Quarteto Radamés Gnattali. Oliveira is also a member of the group of composers Vox Novus, based in New York.To commemorate 15 years of activity as a composer, Oliveira released a box set with 4 CDs, as well as a CD with composer Mark Hagerty, and produced the series QUINZE, with 13 concerts including his works, between July and October of 2012. More than 130 musicians, including 28 composers, participated of QUINZE (CDs and series).His discography includes 14 CDs as producer, 14 as composer, 22 as general producer, 2 as arranger and 2 as pianist. His catalog of compositions includes approximately 115 works for various ensembles, including Symphony Orchestra. Sergio Roberto de Oliveira is a member of the Latin Academy of the Arts and Science of Recording.He died from pancreatic cancer in 2017.

Cumbia is yet another of my musical homages to the rhythms and sounds of Colombia. This lively, syncopated musical expression was partly imported to Colombia from Africa during the slave trade back in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Since the Atlantic coast of Colombia was the main port of this trade, the area also became the cradle of Cumbia and many other African-influenced genres. My work explores the main rhythmical patterns of the Cumbia, as well as its modal-type melodies. However, I have also mixed it with jazz-influenced harmonies and salsa-flavored rhythms to reflect my own bi-cultural upbringing. All in all, I like to consider my Cumbia as a homage to the rich, lively and irresistible music of African-American cultures. - Alexander Klein.

There is a driving pulse that is vehement and at times unpleasant and even frenetic because one's descent into the abyss has been adjudged for a life lived accordingly. Piano 1 and Piano 2 trade off on motifs and dynamic changes. Note the melodic motifs that warrant greater emphasis throughout the piece. Composer's notes: I have always been fascinated by music that lives on the boundary between popular and highbrow, and Argentinian Tango falls right into this category. I wrote Tango for the Road in the summer of 2015, following an earlier tango in my Odessa Trio, titled Tango Dorfman. The genre has a number of well-defined musical characteristics, often opposing one another: it is rhythmically strict and precise, yet warm and sentimental; it carries melodious tunes accompanied by soft chromaticism and elegance, yet it conceals tremendous spark and inner-power; being a partner dance, it sometimes displays a Leader/Follower relationship and other times an equal vigor and energy between the partners.

Number 22 stood out. It has two important associations: the Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters, and there are 22 major arcana cards or allegories of the Tarot. Perfect! I could write 22 pieces, each a musical rendering of a card. And, coincidentally, this work will opus 66.For pictorial inspiration, I bought a Pierpont Morgan Library copy of the Visconti-Sforza Tarot Cards from 15th century Italy. For musical inspiration, I listened to the wonderful salon music of the Polish composer Frederic Chopin, the American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and the Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth.The 22 pieces in the Visconti-Sforza Tarot Cards are: Zero Il Matto The Fool entertains the gathered guests with a tarantella. I. Il Saltimbanco The Mountebank shuffles his cards and does a samba. II. La Papessa The High Priestess concocts a magic potion. III. L'Imperatrice The Empress dances all night. IV. The practice of adding an accompaniment to a composition originally created for a solo instrument is a time-honored tradition in Western art music, whether the additional music be for one or a few instruments or an entire ensemble. In the latter case a concerto movement can be fabricated from a solo work. The Concertino Barocco (Little Baroque Concerto) takes as its basis two pieces of the Baroque era that have long been popular repertoire for advancing students of the keyboard: the Solfeggio (or Solfeggietto) by C.P.E. Bach, and the third movement, Presto, from the Sonata in C minor by Giovanni Battista Pescetti. These works are transformed into two miniature concerto movements by adding and interpolating short tutti passages at various points in the form, rather in the style of Antonio Vivaldi. Not a note has been added or subtracted from the original keyboard solos, so that a student who has mastered the originals may play this Concertino simply by memorizing the exact points in the original pieces where additional music for the orchestra has been added and they must wait to continue.
