This marching band / pep band arrangement of Selena's Baila Esta Cumbia is sure to get the crowds at football and basketball games on its feet and dancing! This Tejano hit was recorded by Selena Quintanilla as the second single from her album Ven Conmigo (1990), and it continues to get plenty of airtime in radio playlists, households, dance clubs, and parties all over the world today. Your students will love playing this Mark Nguyen arrangement of Selena's Baila Esta Cumbia.Notes from the arranger: Baila Esta Cumbia is meant to be felt in two; however, it may be counted in four if necessary for teaching purposes. If güira is not available, cabasa, guacharaca, maracas, or any kind of shaker may be used in its place. If two cowbells of different pitches are not available, the part may be played on one cowbell. When printing, make sure scale is set to 100% so that printed parts will fit inside of a standard flip folder when cut to size.

The concept of creating a Marching Band arrangement for a Metallica song actually had occurred to me several years ago. The announcement of the official competition spurred me to action, and Hey, Guess What? I still missed the deadline. Perhaps an underachiever of the Metallica Family, but a member nonetheless. The arrangement is based on my Piano version of ORION (available on this site, of course). It follows the original closely, with some embellishments added. Some of the soli playing is more challenging than many arrangements. The mood is more of a Concert piece for Marching Band, with plenty of energy, but more musical complexity. The PDF has been improved and replaced. The score is on Tabloid (11x17) size paper and the parts are on Letter (8.5x11) size. The parts will need to be trimmed for use. I believe it justly expresses the power of Metallica's music. This is not eligible for the 2023 competition. First: your group could play it anyway. Second: I will be on a quest to have it added for next year's version. I anticipate this year's competition will go very well.Â

Published by Klint A Kallies (A0.1295469). This arrangement voices Give Me Jesus tune with new harmonization. The flugalhorn and baritone horn duet carries the opening refrain with snare and bass drum accompaniment. The full brass section joins at the end of opening refrain, with woodwinds joining for the stanza and refrain that can be repeated as needed. The harmonies are spread across the low brass and trumpets and lower woodwinds. The flugal, mellophone and baritone horn continue with the melody throughout with high woodwinds doubling the melody. The percussion section includes quad toms, timpani, snare, and bass drum. The flute part could be doubled by xylophone and/or other pitch percussion in octaves. The lower register long tones lend itself to a warm up to begin the show and the rhythmic cadence for this piece makes it a good down field number to place the marching band in a presentation formation for additional selections.
