The Italian flute virtuoso Giuseppe Gariboldi (1833-1905) wrote numerous studies for the flute which are among today's standard teaching literature. Starting with easy melodic tonal studies, the 'First Exercises' gradually expand their range of tones, thus increasing the technical demands. Melodic and harmonic progression, dynamics, articulation and dexterity are developed in short, .exercises arranged in varying ways, starting from the basics.
The song-like, easily comprehensible melody in connection with elementary motivic work (repetitions of motifs, sequences and variations) trains the inner tonal image which is imperative for the beginner in particular. When a sense of melodic progression and phrasing is developed on this basis, the increasing technical elements added later are incorporated both unobtrusively and organically. This new volume in the well-known Schott series 'Essential Exercises' is complemented by teaching tips and an index of the technical and musical topics.

Argentinian Folk Tunes for Flute presents a collection of beautiful pieces arranged for solo flute with chords for accompanying instruments, drawn from the rich tradition of Argentinian music. Highly regarded performer author and teacher Ros Stephen provides notes on all of the pieces, explaining their background and history. French translations of all texts are available as pdf downloads from the Schott Music website. Suitable for players of grades 3-8.

After the success of the first volume, Irish folk music expert Patrick Steinbach presents a further 70 traditional Irish melodies of well-known folk songs and compositions by Turlough O'Carolan. The pieces, including polkas, marches, jigs, and reels, .are suitable for flute, recorder and tin whistle. .The volume .includes explanations on style and traditional ornamentation as well as notes on each melody. .

Marcel Moyse has become one of the legendary great flautists of the 20th century. As a pupil of Tannanel and successor to Gaubert at the Conservatoire National de Paris, he stands in the direct tradition of the 'French School'. How I Stayed in Shape is his last book of studies (1974), presented here for the first time in a trilingual edition (French, German, English). His pedagogic and artistic experiences are set out in their entirety with the aim of helping professional flute players who have little time to practise, and also &lsquo.everyone who loves the flute, while not forgetting the music&rsquo.. This volume aims to improve the basic aspects of flute playing (formation of tone, intonation, articulation, phrasing) using examples from the repertoire and Moyse's own detailed comments.
