Size A4.Kyrgyz Rhythms is a folk song that uses a variety of rhythms and pitches, and can provide a challenge for nearly every instrument. This part is for flute, preferably in a concert band, and for this song, the flute plays an incredibly important role. The flute, along with the piccolo part pitched an octave above, play the melody for most of the song, and if they aren't, they are playing an important role in supporting the melody, so make sure that the flute sings out, do not let it be reserved. Also, be aware of the quite high notes scattered throughout the piece, you will need to know how to play a high C in order to play. The part contains a wide variety of musical elements, pitch, rhythm, tempo, key etc. The piece is divided into different sections by two or three bar rests, that can prepare the performer for the next section. A flute player should make sure that they keep the wide dynamic range required for the song, but at the same time, to try and not block out the other instruments, especially the piccolos.If played in a non-concert band setting, you may simply ignore the three bar rests. They aren't very useful unless playing in a concert band.

This is a I-VI-II-V-III-VI-II-V progression very common in Jazz. Page 3 creates an 8 measure progression in the key of C using this 4 measure riff. The audio file that accompanies the sheet music is split into 4 sections, Part 1 consists of the piano playing along with the rhythm backing tracks in all 12 keys. Part 2 consists of the rhythm backing tracks in all 12 keys for practicing purposes. Part 3 consists of the piano playing along with the rhythm backing tracks in the 12 bar blues progression format in the key of C. Part 4 consists of the rhythm backing tracks in the 12 bar blues progression format in the key of C to practice with. Optional MIDI files are available separately for a fee, contact sales@adgproductions.com With using software such as the free programs Musescore or Garage Band you will be able to do the following with the MIDI files: 1. Slow the tempo down to your skill level. 2. Change the key, allowing you the option of transposing the patterns into keys other than the written key. 3. Use the loop function to practice difficult measures repeatedly. 4. Use these patterns for ear training exercises by slowing the tempo down and looping a certain section repeatedly, try to play the correct notes using your ear rather than reading the music. Atrahente (or “Attractive†in English) exemplifies the interwoven polka and choro rhythms often found in the music of Francisca Chiquinha Gonzaga, one of Brazil's most prolific composers. This melody of hers, with expressive melodies and technical runs, is a great fit for a soloist looking to be challenged. The solo flute is accompanied and supported by 4-mallet marimba. I chose marimba over piano for this arrangement as the marimba's warmth and percussiveness greatly contribute to the feel of the piece. The soloist is encouraged to take liberties at each of the fermatas, and should treat the Andante section as a quazi-cadenza. This is certainly not a rigid piece of repertoire with only one way it can be played. Difficulty is advanced, and reaches up to a high A. Â

The work was written in memory of American composer Daniel Pinkham (1923-2006) – a composerwhose music, advocacy, and personal support meant a great deal to me over the years I knew him.Throughout his distinguished career as a composer, keyboard performer (on harpsichord and organ),teacher, and conductor, Dan Pinkham served as an inspiration for countless American composers andmusicians.I had planned to write a solo flute sonata for a few years and made many sketches towards such a work. Inearly 2007, reflecting on Dan’s passing in December 2006, I threw out everything I already had and begananew, conceiving the work both as a tribute to Dan and a piece for his close friend and frequentcollaborator Fenwick Smith.The five movements of the work each explore ongoing transformation of their opening materials. Thoughthere are elegiac moments in the work, the tone throughout is zestfully celebratory, with touches of humor,representing Pinkham’s irrepressible and memorable wit.The first movement, Caprice, flies through a series of arpeggio figurations in changing modes (often adifferent mode “going up†from “coming downâ€).The second movement, Folk Arabesques, is based on a Kentucky folk ballad, “John Riley.†The unusual leapsin the original melody and its modal shifts are explored in the surrounding commentaries, which takecombine bits of the folk ballad with arabesque figurations.The third movement, March, leaps through the total chromatic spectrum. Though the march is a form oftenignored by American composers, Pinkham often employed such sections and rhythms in his own music.The fourth movement, Aria and Interludes, uses a common Pinkham form—where the basic musicaldialogue (in this case a straightforward ‘aria’ melody in G minor) is interrupted by “interludes†ofcontrasting nature. In the case of this movement, it is gradually revealed that the interludes are alteredversions of the aria material.The fifth and final movement, Hootenanny at the Gates of Heaven, is a joyous romp, combining together boththe chromatic/modal shifts of the earlier movements with pentatonic figurations and melodies in the spiritof American folk fiddling.

Five star studies is a collection of 20 short technical pieces for beginner flutists, starting with the very first three notes B, A, G and gradually increasing in difficulty.
The studies introduce new technical terms step by step.
The five star sections at the bottom of every page are dedicated to such components as rhythm, dynamics, notes, posture, articulation, expression, sound, etc. Some of the boxes are already filled in, but the empty ones are left for the teacher to choose the technical difficulty to work on while practicing the study.
The teacher should evaluate how many stars the student has earned based on overall impression during the lesson. The goal for the student is to practice at home paying attention to every single block and manage to add more stars at the next lesson.
The study is considered ?done? when the student has earned all the stars in all five blocks.
