Score: 15 pages. Antonio Vivaldi was an Italian composer and violinist in the Baroque period, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest composers of all time. He was a major influence on many other composers of the Baroque era, and his influence can still be felt in music today.Vivaldi's most important contribution to music history was his development of the sonata da chiesa, or church sonata. This form of composition was a variation on the Baroque sonata, and was used primarily in sacred music. It was characterized by a more lyrical approach to composition, with a focus on melody and harmonic structure. Written in two movements for trumpet, horn in F and organ, the work starts with a slower introduction that is written in the key of B major, the dominant key of E major. Moreover, the first movement has imitative passages that are present in all the three instruments. Following the first movement that is written in the 4/4 time, the next movement, composed in the 6/8 time and in E major, is performed gracefully in a style of a pastorale. Like the previous movement, the second part is contrapuntal but it differs in its extensive use of the dialogue between the horn and trumpet. In performing the sonata, there should be balance among the brass instruments and the organ in regard to sound intensity and the speed. The trumpet tends to overpower the horn in passages marked f or louder, and the organist may adjust the registrations to keep the sound from overpowering the other two instruments. If this piece were to be performed in large concert halls or churches, the time that takes air to leave the organ chest to the pipes may be longer. Choice of speed should be rehearsed carefully. The organ registration itself is merely a suggestion and should not be taken too literally due to the design of the organ and the acoustics of the hall or church. Sonata For Trumpet, Horn And Organ is suitable for concert use. This work may be performed at any time of the year, especially Christmas, Post-Easter and general use.

Capriccio was originally written as a piece for unaccompanied clarinet in 1984 while I was a clarinet student at the University of North Carolina, School of the Arts in Winston Salem, NC under the tutelage of Robert Listokin. Bob Listokin was one of greatest individuals I’ve ever known. He taught me so much more than how to play the clarinet. His example of love, humility, and kindness has been a guiding force throughout my life. This little piece was written while I was little more than a child and one of the few compositions that I would risk publishing today. As I sat down to revise it, I was amazed at how it foreshadowed many of the defining characteristics of my current style. The piece has been murmuring in the back of my mind for thirty-six years much in the same way that I still feel Mr. Listokin’s gentle hand on my shoulder telling me to relax. Duration - 3:20

Its structure falls roughly into a sonata form. The first theme is short and animate, while the second one, in contrast, sings a long lyrical tune. Since the keys are not established in conventional ways the tonal centers are ambiguous in most times. Although the dominancy of the trumpet cannot be avoided in this instrumental setting, the composer tried to make the piano sound equally interesting and attractive with the trumpet. It is the composer's wish that this little piece could bring the audience a cheerful frame of mind. CD recording by Adam Hayes and Kris Carlisle is available on Curvepoin Media.

The 19th century was not only the era of great forms, monumental symphonies and melodious sonatas, no, the Romantic composers proved to be versatile and highly imaginative in the field of little music pieces as well. Robert Schumann was a master of the character piece for his instrument, the piano. From thirty of such poetic miniatures, he selected thirteen in 1838 for his 'Scenes of Childhood', opus 15, the seventh, i.e. the one right in the middle, being 'Dreaming', the most famous among Schumann's compositions. It is a romantic gem the catchy melody of which will not get out of one's head. The beautiful setting contained in the present edition can be played even by non-pianists.
