Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792506). Charles Edward Stacy was born near Dayton, Ohio, March 1873, and passed in the year 1926 in Long Beach, California. His last employment was with the Long Beach Municipal Band. These books were first published in 1916. Besides trombone playing, Stacy had a passion for aviation and invented something to do with stick control for flying smaller airplanes. He was regarded by his peers as a pioneer in aviation. These three marvelous books Stacy completed are now available in one volume. This will help perpetuate Stacy's legacy and keep trombone players all over the world improving their practice and quality of their playing for years to come. Please acknowledge the tempo markings; and rest in-between each exercise. The slower you play some of the pages, the more benefit you will reap. It is my privilege to share them with you now. The Confessions of St. Augustine is a solo for Unaccompanied Trombone written by Canadian violinist/composer Erika Raum. St. Augustine (of Hippo) was a 5th Century convert to Christianity who was one of the first philosophers and theologians of the faith. He went on to write a number of important works including the autobiographical work Confessions, a series of thirteen books outlining his sinful youth and eventual conversion to Christianity. Ms. Raum's music, in four sections features the following tabloids: Youth and Pagan Beginnings, The Mystical Voice of the Child in the Garden, St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, The Debate at the Baths of Sozius. This work is very expressive, with many contrasting sections and complex rhythms, and is rather moderate in range, being accessible to moderately advanced to advanced performers.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811111). Simone Mantia's Trombone Virtuoso was one of the most important method books for the instrument in the mid 20th Century. Many major Trombonists used this book as young artists, finding it added greatly to their progress on the instrument. Mantia's method book covers all clefs, keys and techniques necessary for a sound footing on the Trombone. Although some of the styles in the book may seem dated, they were in vogue at the time. Mantia performed with the Metropolitan Opera Company for many years and was for quite a while, its Personnel Manager, coming across hundreds of top instrumentalists who migrated and lived in New York City. As a young performer, he was also a leading soloist with the Sousa band and toured with it throughout North America.

We are proud to have brought them back into the light again to stand out as the great studies they are. Here is what Charlie Vernon, a student of William Hill has to say about these studies: When I look back on my time with Mr. Hill, 95% of all lessons that I had with him were spent studying music fundamentals from Arban, Schlossberg and Bordogni. Along with those studies we also spent time working on the basic flexibility exercises, which we now have as the Versatility Studies. I am so thankful for his insistence on the importance of the basics because that way of teaching has become the way I practice and teach all my lessons.
