Based on Grieg's famous orchestral movement from 'Peer Gynt Suite no.1', this arrangement is a contemporary twist on an old classic and designed to appeal to young audiences and musicians. It was originally written for Sæbø Skulemusikklag, Norway, for World Brass Day 2017. The performance was recorded as representation of Norwegian culture and uploaded to Youtube in a shared playlist alongside others from around the globe*. The arrangement begins in a similar creepy manner to the original, tip-toeing in and gradually building up to a frightening frenzy. Something of a surprise is in store for the audience after a familiar opening however; a dubstep/drum n bass twist drops in before the melody rejoins in a new fashion, leading on to solo moments for drum kit and timpani. Elements of the original orchestration are again infused into the repeated refrain to intensify the music towards a dramatic final close.Note to conductors:Difficult solo tuba parts are a feature, but a simplified version is also supplied for less advanced players.The soprano cornet, 2nd horn and 2nd baritone parts are supplementary and can be omitted without problem. Beginner level (aspirant) parts are provided, written in B and E flat as 'Trolls' so that newer band members can join in. *this arrangement has been edited since that performance for publication.

They are presented in a set of two books and include full four-part instrumental scores plus parts for 1st B flat trumpet, 2nd B flat trumpet, horn in F (with a separate optional part for horn in E flat), trombone and/or tuba. The tuba part is also optional because it either doubles the trombone part or plays an octave below. Both trombone and tuba parts appear on a single staff in the bass clef at concert pitch. The arrangements can be used with brass quartet, brass quintet or brass ensemble. There’s also an optional but useful simplified keyboard part intended for less experienced keyboard players. The left hand plays only the bass part most of the time, with the right hand part kept as simple as possible. It could be used as the basis of an accompaniment which means that you can use the arrangements as solos, duets or trios.The arrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a concert or service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing. The arrangements been written in brass-friendly keys as often as possible. While the hymns mostly use the traditional harmonies, the carols have been treated more freely. With Schnoodles, each part takes turns carrying and supporting the melody giving each player the opportunity to experience both roles simultaneously. While Schnoodles give each player a lot to play, they also give players some creative choices. None come with a prescribed tempo, and most allow students to determine the appropriate articulations and dynamics for the piece based on their abilities, preferences, and interpretations - and hopefully - guidance from a teacher! Players are encouraged to consult teachers and more experienced musicians as they ponder the possibilities of each petit little piece.

This publication includes full four-part instrumental scores plus parts for 1st B flat trumpet, 2nd B flat trumpet, horn in F (with a separate optional part for horn in E flat), trombone and/or tuba. The tuba part is also optional because it either doubles the trombone part or plays an octave below. Both trombone and tuba parts appear on a single staff in the bass clef at concert pitch. The arrangements can be used with brass quartet, brass quintet or brass ensemble. There’s also an optional but useful simplified keyboard part intended for less experienced keyboard players. The left hand plays only the bass part most of the time, with the right hand part kept as simple as possible. It could be used as the basis of an accompaniment which means that you can use the arrangements as solos, duets or trios. The arrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a concert or service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing. The arrangements been written in brass-friendly keys as often as possible. While the hymns mostly use the traditional harmonies, the carols have been treated more freely.
