Published by James Marshall Music (A0.913632). Septet for Brass is one of the earliest compositions of this composer. It echoes the sentiments of the  Cold War late 1960s in its bold, brass gestures of confidence and elan. Set in traditional three movement form, the opening Allegro heralds the return to decorum following the upheaval of the decade. The secondary theme is reminiscent of the English lyricism of Vaughn Williams. This sentiment returned to the pen of this composer in recent years in compositions commissioned by London clarinetist Alison Eales. This score originally from 1969 was edited during the Pandemic of 2020-2021. Andante is a lamenting chorale played by the Tuba laced by haunting melismas suggesting the drawn out moods in the music of Shostakovich. The final Rondo is spirited with a theme in 9/8 (3/4 + 3/8) with subsequent sections of mix meter and pulsating textures. Instrumentation is 2 Trumpets in C, 2 Horns in F, 2 Trombones and Tuba.

Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-sharp minor, S.244/2, is the second in a set of 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies by composer Franz Liszt, and is by far the most famous of the set. In both the original piano solo form and in the orchestrated version this composition has enjoyed widespread use in animated cartoons. This arrangement is scored for Double Brass Quintet and makes a stirring addition to any concert or recital. It is written for advanced players. ( Duration - 6:55 ).

This is a brilliant arrangement of the first movement Longing of William Grant Still's Afro-American Symphony for a brass choir of four B-flat trumpets, four horns in F, three trombones, euphonium and tuba. William Grant Still's Afro-American Symphony was one of the most significant classical orchestra compositions of the early 1930s to incorporate African-American folk influences. Premiered by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in October 1931 at conductor Howard Hanson's notable American Music Festival, it brought the melancholy flavor of the Blues to the symphony. For William Grant Still the Blues was a distinct African-American musical contribution, separate from the spiritual and popular jazz, and he wanted to incorporate it into a symphonic work based on Western classical symphonic instrumentation and forms. As part of the early 20th Century Harlem Renaissance in New York City, this work was enthusiastically received across the USA and overseas. Published by Polar Publications (A0.757515). Originally for keyboard, these sinfonias, often played on organ, work very well for modern brass instruments. In some cases, octave displacements or key changes are necessary to accommodate the range of these instruments, but these changes do not change the character of Bach’s music. Original Keys are noted when changed. Tempi are suggested from an organ transcription, and should be taken as a reference. These should be played at tempi that make sense for the brass trio. This transcription is for the Central Alberta Chamber Players. Substitute parts for Bb trumpet in place of C Trumpet, and Bb and C trumpet in place of Horn in F.
