Triad by Jim Pugh is a work in a contemporary style for Brass Trio (Trumpet, Horn and Trombone) commissioned in 1996 by the Areopagitica Brass Trio. The work for advanced performers is 5 minutes in length and has five slow sections and three fast sections alternating throughout. Pugh uses dissonance and unison as a way of adding and releasing tension throughout the work. Pugh writes that this work is his most personal composition and deals with his search as an adopted child for his birth mother. The work begins in-utero and through all of the complexities of relationships between the child and others in his life. Parts are supplied for C & B-flat Trumpet, Horn and Trombone. This 5-minute work is written for very advanced performers.

Based on Grieg's famous orchestral movement from 'Peer Gynt Suite no.1', this arrangement is a contemporary twist on an old classic and designed to appeal to young audiences and musicians. It was originally written for Sæbø Skulemusikklag, Norway, for World Brass Day 2017. The performance was recorded as representation of Norwegian culture and uploaded to Youtube in a shared playlist alongside others from around the globe*. The arrangement begins in a similar creepy manner to the original, tip-toeing in and gradually building up to a frightening frenzy. Something of a surprise is in store for the audience after a familiar opening however; a dubstep/drum n bass twist drops in before the melody rejoins in a new fashion, leading on to solo moments for drum kit and timpani. Elements of the original orchestration are again infused into the repeated refrain to intensify the music towards a dramatic final close.Note to conductors:Difficult solo tuba parts are a feature, but a simplified version is also supplied for less advanced players.The soprano cornet, 2nd horn and 2nd baritone parts are supplementary and can be omitted without problem. Beginner level (aspirant) parts are provided, written in B and E flat as 'Trolls' so that newer band members can join in. *this arrangement has been edited since that performance for publication.

Blaze was written by Jim Fieldhouse as a personal composition challenge during the coronavirus lockdown of 2020. The piece came about from a desire to contribute to the contemporary euphonium repertoire and a need for some material for the composer to practice while the UK's brass bands were on pause due to Covid-19. This piece means business! It starts with a bang and is definitely not for the faint hearted. Much of the material centres around repeated semiquavers and requires razor sharp precision to bring it off the page. The relentless melodic lines are laid over funk influenced grooves and driving bass riffs. Playing with good time and feel are really important for switching between the more traditional brass band style and the all out jazz funk sections. While the euphonium 1 part is predominantly a high register part and euphonium 4 is very much the bass of the quartet, all four parts present their own challenges of virtuosic technique, range and stamina.Parts included: Full Score. This popular Tom Jones classic, is in fact a cover version, which started life as the Italian song Gli Occhi Miei (My Eyes), written by Giulio Rapetti Mogol with lyrics by Carlo Donida Labati, and was performed by Dino Eugenio Zambelli , as well as Wilma Goich. The British author and songwriter Jack Fishman, wrote the English lyrics, which bear no relation to the original Italian. This arrangement is faithful to the Tom Jones version, and is scored in the original key of E flat major, modulating E major, so some players could find the final section demanding.
