The All-Night Vigil (Vespers) Op. 37 is an a cappella choral work first performed in 1915. It's fifteen movements consist of Russian Orthodox Church texts. Rachmaninoff had stopped attending church, but he felt compelled to write some of his own chants in the style of the Church, calling them "conscious counterfeits".

The work is enormous, of over one hour of the most beautiful choral writing with Rachmaninoff's patented rich harmonies, melody and polyphony.

Paul Erion has arranged this work for moderately advanced 10-part Brass Ensemble of: 4 Trumpets in C, 2 Horns, 3 Trombones & Tuba.

Ave Maria, composed in 1889 is the first movement of Verdi's Quattro pezzi sacri for a cappella chorus. Verdi was inspired to compose this work, prompted by the challenge put forth to harmonize the Enigmatic Scale (Scala Enigmatica Armonizzata) by composer Adolfo Crescentini. The rather bizarre scale is passed around to all the parts throughout the entire work and is part of the mystery of this sacred work.

This 4-minute piece has been brilliantly arranged by Denis Jiron for 13-part Brass Ensemble with the following instrumentation: Cornet in B-flat, 3 Flugelhorns, 4 Horns, 2 Trombones, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba.

This work may be performed by moderately advanced performers.

Procession of the Nobles (Cortége) was written in 1889 as part of the opera Mlada. The Procession is the only part of the opera that is still performed and is the introduction to Act II, which begins with a town festival. The colorful scene bursts to life with a rousing fanfare by the brass.

Keith Terrett has brilliantly arranged this music for Brass Sextet for advanced performers with the following instrumentation:

Ecce Sacerdos Magnus (?Behold the Great Priest?) comes from the early European tradition of plainchant. Bruckner?s setting of the responsory, originally scored for eight-part mixed choir, organ and three trombones, brings certain medieval qualities to an otherwise Romantic-era composition.



This transcription for 10-part brass choir is appropriate for intermediate level and above and attempts to retain the majesty, power, and beauty of the original piece. It should be approached as a choral piece: connected and fluid. The harmonic language is essentially triadic; great care should be taken in the tuning of each chord throughout the piece.



Instrumentation is for: 3 Trumpets in B-flat, 2 Horns, 3 Trombones, Euphonium and Tuba.

This bundle of brass ensemble music represents a huge saving on the prices of the individual arrangements, and comprises 5 popular pieces which are ideal for concert purposes. From the quiet, emotional 'Londonderry Air', which has been arranged as per the version featured in the 'Brassed Off' film, to the huge 'Sinfonietta' by Janáand#269;ek, there is a whole range of music here. Much of it is aimed at advanced players as the level of challenge is high, but they all work incredibly well once rehearsed properly. Three of the arrangements also have parts for percussion included with them as well.
