Versatile Brass 'Óld Time Favourites' CollectionIt's a Long Way to Tipperary is a British music hall song written by Henry James Harry Williams and co-credited to Jack Judge. Originally it was credited as written by Jack Judge and co-credited to Henry James Harry Williams. It was allegedly written for a 5-shilling bet in Stalybridge on 30 January 1912 and performed the next night at the local music hall. Now commonly called It's a Long Way to Tipperary, the original printed music calls it It's a Long, Long Way to Tipperary. It became popular among soldiers in the First World War and is remembered as a song of that war.Welcoming signs in the referenced county of Tipperary, Ireland, humorously declare, You've come a long long way... in reference to the song.This is a very simple arrangement for Brass Ensemble playable by all levels of player.

Co-written by Jim Steinman and Dean Pitchford and made famous by singer Bonnie Tyler, Holding Out For A Hero is a song that has been relevant to popular culture from 1984 to the present day. Originally written for the soundtrack of Footloose, the song has since appeared in many TV shows, commercials, and other movies, including the film Shrek 2, and more recently, Disney's TV series Loki.From the sultry melody, to the female chorus, to the trumpet parts in the original song, this piece is arranged beautifully for trumpet ensemble. This particular arrangement is 4 minutes long, in the original key, and includes 9 Bb trumpet parts. The 1st part additionally requires access to a Bb piccolo trumpet. Parts 1-4 are rather challenging, while parts 5-9 are easier but still fun to play. The required skill level is approximately that of an undergraduate trumpet studio.

Hello to all who happen to stumble onto this piece! My name is Anthony Prudent, and I am a student at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in New York City. This piece is an original composition that was written for the Brass Ensemble in the school. The world premiere of the song occurred on Tuesday, January the 7th. As such, I am distributing this work so that any ensemble, for school or otherwise, can perform it! The piece is roughly three and a half minutes long. However, it can be found challenging at times. Nevertheless, it is a fun piece to perform anywhere and is an excellent form of repertoire for brass players looking for something to engage with their performing groups.

The final cadence is classic Gabrieli with its grand finale. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767276). As part of my continuing project to transcribe Monteverdi's madrigals onto winds, here is the 6th book. In this book we see a much greater development towards dramatic representation. In a way, this book is divisible into two Scenes with a number of single items in between. The vocal lines are all much more complex and we can also see the beginnings of monodic writing appear in the semi-recit sections of some of the songs. Also clearly developing are delineations of the voices into soloists and chorus. Several songs in this book are almost akin to arias, with clear soloistic writing for the higher voices (Cantus/Tenor). The first four songs form a kind of introductory 'scena', which Monteverdi calls Lamento d'Arianna. A little later, there is a set of 6 songs which he grouped together under the title Sestina. This song immediately precedes Sestina and is another wooing song to a girl named Florida. As with all things madrigalian, the lyrics are rife with double entendres. Monteverdi uses some very close dissonances to describe death and release.

The Fifth book of madrigals starts to see much more development towards operatic style writing, with more songs being strung together to form scenas and with the addition of accompaniment on instruments. Some of these songs can be written by incorporating the accompaniment into the parts for those instruments which are resting, some will require more than a quintet. Certainly as we get into the next three books, reduction to a quintet will become increasingly more difficult, if not impossible. The penultimate song, again presents difficulties in arranging for quintet, however the sixth voice mostly alternates with the others and so with a bit of jusicious adaptation, a six-voice song becomes a quintet.
