The Ave Maria by Bach/Gounod is a popular and much-recorded setting of the Latin text Ave Maria, originally published in 1853 as Méditation sur le Premier Prélude de Piano de S. Bach. The piece consists of a melody by the French Romantic composer Charles Gounod that he superimposed over an only very slightly changed version of the Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, from Book I of J.S. Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, written 137 years earlier. Bach's Trio Sonatas BWV 525-530 are some of the most popular and beloved works of the Baroque period. Composed in 1717, these six trio sonatas for the organ are among Bach's earliest works for the instrument. They are all in the traditional three-movement form and are composed in the style of the Italian concerto grosso, with two upper voices (treble and alto) and a basso continuo. The two upper voices often intertwine in intricate contrapuntal melodies, while the basso continuo provides harmonic support. The works are also full of virtuosic passages that demonstrate Bach's mastery of the organ. The Trio Sonatas are considered to be among the most important and influential works of the Baroque era, and they continue to be widely performed and studied today.The Bach Trio Sonatas have been successfully transcribed for a variety of ensembles, including wind, string, and brass ensembles. The parts are easily divided among a variety of wind instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone. In these transcriptions, the original material is retained, but often with some additional orchestration or embellishment. These transcriptions often emphasize the polyphonic texture of the original works, creating a rich soundscape.  The Sonatas have also been successfully adapted for a variety of string ensembles. In these versions, the original two-part texture with the basso is maintained, creating a full and satisfying sound that allows for a more nuanced interpretation of the works. In addition, these transcriptions often add a variety of dynamic markings and articulations that were not present in the original editions. These transcriptions provide performers with a variety of options for interpreting and performing these beloved works.

This arrangement is part of the Chicago Gargoyle Brass & Organ Ensemble Signature Series.Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor (BWV 582) is an organ work composed by Bach early in his career. It is arguably one of his greatest and most important works. The passacaglia starts with an ostinato theme, followed by 20 variations. Immediately after the passacaglia, without break, is a double fugue based on the ostinato theme. This arrangement pays homage to the great transcriptions of Stokowski and Ormandy, by weaving the colors of brass, organ and percussion into symphonic textures. Perfect for any recital, concert or pops program. This arrangement is scored for brass quintet, organ and a single percussionist (timpani, snare drum, suspended cymbal). Due to the range of the first trumpet (to C6), parts are provided for trumpet in C, E-flat and doubling on B-flat trumpet/B-flat piccolo (select whichever part works best for you). With concerts, recitals and wedding performances in mind, this arrangement will be popular with players and audiences alike. The Prelude has an irrevocable sense of momentum, only sated with a short cadenza like flourish and a final bout of arpeggios. The Fugue allows all four voices to develop and flourish after the forced regimentation of the Prelude. The difficulty level for the Prelude is about ABRSM grade 5-6, and the Fugue about grade 5-8 with the outside parts taking the more technical moments, although optional alternatives are scored where range appropriate to lower difficulty if desired. Published by Richard Jones (A0.1026133). Until the 1970s the Minuet in G Major was attributed to the great Johann Sebastian Bach. For centuries musicologists believed it was an original composition as it was a part of the manuscript notebook compiled by Bach and his wife Anna Magdalena Bach, in 1725.Petzold was born in Konigstein, Germany, in 1677 and little is known about his exact birth date. Relatively few pieces ofhis have survived the centuries, but the inclusion of his two minuets in the Anna Magdalena Notebook, remain the most famous of these.The theme to the Minuet in G was used in 1966 by the American pop group The Toys, in their song 'A Lover's Concerto'.In this arrangement I have syncopated the theme and accompanying parts to create a jazz feel. From letter A the theme appears in the cornet and euphonium lines and then at letter B the theme is transferred to the horn section. Whilst the theme is in the horn section there is a counter riff in the baritones and trombones, and a simple jazz syncopation in the cornets. At C the key changes to the sub-dominant key of C and the back row cornets get the tune in a simple but syncopated form whilst a flowing counter melody continues in the lower instruments. Then at D the euphoniums, baritones and basses have their chance and the syncopation appears in the horns and interjections in the cornets. After the D.S the the piece goes to the Coda, which hasthe tune split between each of the sections of the band with a fortissimo climax.

The horn part takes the tenor voice solo where appropriate, singing over the rest of the ensemble. All players have occasional rest-bites and plenty of opportunity to shine, with the general range and technical demands for a convincing performance aimed at intermediate to advanced players (ABRSM grade 5 and upwards). This popular baroque classic would be a perfect addition to concerts, recitals and wedding programmes, for both audiences and performers alike.
