The original title of the song was Babe, I Hate to Go, as featured on his 1966 studio album John Denver Sings, but Denver's then producer Milt Okun convinced him to change the title… This version has been arranged for the Brass Band or Ensemble with an optional Bass Guitar part. Percussion parts include Timpani, Crash Cymbal, and Drum Set. There are parts for both Horns in Eb and F, Trombones 1-2 TC and BC, Euphonium TC or BC, Basses in Eb, Bb, and C. A Piacere was a phrase used in the 19th century to leave the interpretation of a musical passage up to the player. In this piece, this is done by leaving an improvising soloist to play as he or she wants accompanied by a large brass and percussion ensemble. The brass ensemble plays written rhythmic and melodic cells, the order of which is indicated in concert by the conductor. A Piacere was a Commande d'Etat, from the French government in 1996. Depending on the improvisations, the duration is between 20-30 minutes. Explanations are to be found at the end of the score.A Piacere was premiered by Michel Godard, tuba soloist with the ensemble A Piacere, Philippe Barthod, conductor at Contrexeville, France on October 29, 1996.

Over the last few years, this particular song has proved to be very popular with couples getting married. The solo part can be played on the 1st Trumpet/Cornet part or can be sung. For this purpose, the words are added to the solo part.This is a simple arrangement that can be played by any level of ensemble. The String Synth Part can be omitted if not required. Winterreise or Winter Journey takes me back to my days at music college when this was a set study piece. Twenty Four songs with sixteen (I think) in the minor key tell of the rejected lover's journey into winter, leaving behind his rich lover. This is an arrangement of the first song in the cycle. Performers need to make sure that the speed is kept to a moderate walk and that the solo parts, tuba and trombone are not drowned in too much of a Mahlerian style. Just enjoy and perhaps even read a good translation of the text before performing.

Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808682).     After You’ve Gone, composed in 1918 by Turner Layton (melody) and Henry Creamer (lyrics), was a hit from the beginning. Al Jolson introduced it to live audiences, Marion Harris’ record went to #1 in early 1919, and since then dozens of artists have recorded it . . . and many are still doing so. The words are rather sad-she’s leaving and he’s trying to get her to stay-but played up tempo, the melody is bouncy and fun. That sad-versus-happy dichotomy is incorporated in this arrangement. It begins with a bright, bouncy introduction and first-time-through of the chorus, then slows so the Horn in F can play a melancholic and somewhat schmaltzy rendition of the verse. The Tuba provides a transition back to the upbeat chorus, and we are again off to the races. Layton’s melody slips and slides from one instrument to the next (with the Tuba getting an entire iteration all to itself!), until the pace again slows for a 4-bar reminder of the sentimental verse, which then gives way to a rousing Dixieland-like closing.

At the end of most of the episodes from the 1978 TV Series, The Incredible Hulk, the main character, David Banner, is shown leaving whatever town or city he was in, walking alone down the highway, sometimes hitch-hiking, as he has typically destroyed buildings, human lives, and relationships as his Hulk persona earlier in the episode and can no longer show his face in town. The music that accompanies this ending scene is the tragic and sad The Lonely Man. It is so stereotypically and overly dramatic, that it has become something of an internet meme, being featured on an episode of Family Guy as well as numerous Youtube videos. This setting for brass quintet stays faithful to the original version for solo piano by Joe Harnell and captures the mournful and sad atmosphere perfectly.

In Irish folklore the leprehaun is portrayed as a little bearded man, wearing a green coat and hat, and who gets into all kinds of mischief. In general they are solitary creatures who spend their time as cobblers making and mending shoes and have a pot of gold hidden at the end of the rainbow. According to the legends, if you are lucky enough to find a leprehaun and catch him you can exchange his freedom for his treasure. But leprehauns can be a tricky...take your eyes off him for just a second and he'll be gone in a wink leaving you with nothing!This should be played quite boisterously and playfully. It could fit into many types of programs of a light nature. Ideal for St.Patrick's Day or children's concerts.
