Scored for 2 B flat Trumpets, Horn in F, 2 Trombones and Tuba, Weekend in Paris is a bright jazz waltz intended to convey the excitement and anticipation of a trip to Paris. The music is to bring to mind pleasure in sightseeing, wandering around cafe's, seeing children at play, people dancing and laughing and families gathering in a happy relaxed atmosphere in the glorious sunshine.The piece is in concert F major establishing the bright swingy rhythm, this then flows into the second section which is more lyrical and legato and is in E flat major. A short bridge section follows keeping the motif's heard in the first section but exploring the lower registers and remains largely legato. The first two sections are then heard again before a modulation takes place to give the piece a final lift before the end. The piece concludes quietly with a snippet of the opening motif.I have set it to intermediate level but the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.The music would be a great addition to any repertoire as a happy piece, programmatic with a world/travelling theme in mind.Full score 16 pages-parts 4 pages each. 4 mins 15 in length.Price is for score and all parts.NB Versions for Flute choir (4 C flutes, Alto and Bass Flute) and Flute Ensemble of 6 C Flutes are also available as is a Clarinet Choir version.

I was at college in the late 70’s (RNCM) and the brass dep fave groups were EWF (and Maynard), we formed a band, brass and rhythm section called Brass Injection where the members of the band arranged EWF/Maynard/Blood Sweat and Tears/Steele Dan and the like. (5 tpts, 4 troms, tuba, rhythm section). We colleges giggled, Manchester gigged, and after 4 years we ended up in Ronnie Scott’s. In The Stone seemed to be a must for brass band and difficult dictation and I don’t like to leave things out or simplify. So I’m starting an EWF collection with September and Fantasy to come soon. The semiquaver syncs will take some time to give it the relaxed feel especially in the bass dep. Here’s to the memory of Brass Injection and RNCM days.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792347). Debussy wrote this five minute work in 1904 for a production of King Lear. The music is in A-B-A form beginning with a fanfare containing a combination of open and complex chords, giving it an ancient sound. The middle section is a relaxed intermezzo called Lear Asleep which is followed by a return to the fanfare. The music has been beautifully scored by Ralph Sauer for a 16-part large brass ensemble with timpani and percussion and is appropriate for advanced performers. Mr. Sauer has dedicated this work to the memory of Adolf Bud Herseth.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792534). Symphony No. 4, also known by the composer himself as the Romantic was written in 1874, but revised several times and premiered in 1881 in Vienna. The subtitle actually does not refer to romantic love, but a medieval romance such as some of Wagner's operas.The movement titled Scherzo is full of adventure and vitality with a relaxed middle section. Bruckner himself hinted that the Scherzo movement was a Jadthema or hunting theme and Volkfest or people's festival. The hunting horns are calling, the brass are blowing their fanfares and it is a good day to be hunting. The main feeling from this movement is a strong feeling of the great outdoors.Mr. Johns has arranged this work for 14-part brass ensemble including optional Timpani.The instrumentation is: 4 Trumpets (including piccolo, C, B-flat and Flugelhorn) 4 Horns 4 Trombones, Euphonium and Tuba Timpani (optional)This work is suitable for advanced performers and is about 5 minutes in length.

A funny version of the famous christmas song Jingle Bells, arranged by Austrian arranger Augustin Lehfuss and was originally written for the German Rennquintett, whose members used to perform it on their christmas shows. It should be played with an easy and relaxed swing phrasing. This popular classic from the film The Wizard of Oz would make a brilliant addition to any brass quintet's repertoire for schools concerts, workshops, relaxed performances or private events as it's short and sweet! Quintets featuring younger players could also use the arrangement for practicing light staccato playing and for general ensemble work. The 1st trumpet keeps the melody for the majority of the arrangement, with the 2nd trumpet providing much of the countermelody.The available PDF includes both a concert pitch full score and all five parts. This hit song was made famous with Carly Simon singing, and for brass players, Mnozil Brass included it in their Blofeld show, which features a number of songs from the James Bond movies. This is a great slower, more relaxed sounding piece that makes a great addition to any program. The first trumpet part has a section suggested to be played on flugelhorn (not required - it can also be played on a standard trumpet). Approximate length: 2 minutes and 45 seconds.

The opening section is slow, with gentle syncopation and sophisticated harmonies including very controlled dissonances to heighten the emotion and tension of the music. This is then followed by a riotous fast section with the modal feeling of a Scottish reel, with everyone getting a piece of the action. Frequent modulations and lively syncopations drive this music forward - you can almost hear the dancers stamp the floor! At the end of this section the syncopations wind down and the music returns to the material from the start of the piece, before winding down and relaxing even further to an almost mournful conclusion. The slower sections will require sensitive and musical playing and direction, whilst the fast section requires nimble fingers and tongues to get the best from the music. Suitable for players of Grade 6 upwards.
