Published by Kevin P Holdgate (A0.791040). There's No Business Like Show Business is an Irving Berlin song, written for the 1946 musical Annie Get Your Gun and orchestrated by Ted Royal. The song, a slightly tongue-in-cheek salute to the glamour and excitement of a life in show business, is sung in the musical by members of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in an attempt to persuade Annie Oakley to join the production. It is reprised three times in the musical but for the purposes of the show that I made this arrangement for only 2 verses were required... a third verse could easily be added of course with appropriate lyrics.The song is also featured in the 1954 movie of the same name, where it is notably sung by Ethel Merman as the main musical number. The movie, directed by Walter Lang, is essentially a catalog of various Berlin's pieces, in the same way that Singin' in the Rain-which starred Donald O'Connor as well-was a collection of Arthur Freed songs. There was also a disco version of the song made during the 1970s, with Merman reprising her singing role in The Ethel Merman Disco Album. The song became one of Ethel Merman's standards and was often performed by her at concerts and on television.This is a simple arrangement of the song playable by all levels of ensemble

Published by Wadley Publications (A0.983164). This Brass Quintet won the 1996 Fine Arts Festival Music Award at Illinois State University, an international competition. Songs of the Warrior, a Brass Quintet in three movements, utilizes thematic material derived from a twelve-tone row, presented in three contrasting styles. While the piece stands on its own as absolute music following traditional formal structures, the titles of each movement do suggest a setting befitting the mood or atmosphere evoked by the music. I. The Cannon’s Mouth Following a slightly modified version of the classical sonata allegro form, this movement presents the thematic material in a freely atonal setting, Much use is made of variations of ancient two note war-horn calls, which would command soldiers to advance into direct combat with an enemy. II. Amidst the Fallen The second movement evokes images of the aftermath of battle and the horrors left on the field of war. Dynamic and rhythmic elements in the music produce a classic arch form. Melodic and harmonic structures are developed throughout the movement. III. Revelry A complete departure in style from the previous movements, Revelry features upbeat modal harmony and foot-tapping rhythms. Thematic material borrowed from the earlier movements is transformed to conform to the desired atmosphere. The form of the movement is best described as a hybrid rondo and variations. The light-hearted mood is perhaps a reflection of the joy found when a soldier returns to his home. This quintet presents three stylistically distinct movements, yet all are based on the same thematic sources. The first movement is somewhat cerebral and demands much virtuosity from the performers. The second is darker, with some almost lyrical melodic lines. The final movement is nothing if not bombastic. All-in-all, Songs of the Warrior provides a little something for everyone, from Berlioz to Schoenberg, with a little Bernstein on the side.

This instrumental, flute-based song is an adaptation of the piece Bourrée, written by Johann Sebastian Bach for lute.The arrangement begins with the entire Bouree composed by Bach, followed by the syncopated jazzy feel from Jethro Tull's flautist Ian Anderson.Each instrument has an opportunity for solos throughout above the persistent, bouncing bass line. Gilligan's Island is an American sitcom created and produced by Sherwood Schwartz.The series followed the comic adventures of seven castaways as they attempted to survive on an island on which they had been shipwrecked. Most episodes revolve around the dissimilar castaways' conflicts and their unsuccessful attempts, for whose failure Gilligan was frequently responsible, to escape their plight. Sherwood Schwartz not only created and produced Gilligan’s Island but he wrote the famous ear-worm theme song as well. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808675).     The defeat of Igor Svyatoslavich, a Rus’ prince, in his 1185 campaign against invading Cuman (Polovtsy) tribes was immortalized in the Russian epic, The Lay of Igor’s Campaign. Seven centuries later, Alexander Borodin started work on an opera based on that old tale. Borodin died before finishing, but Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Alexander Glazunov completed Prince Igor, and it was performed for the first time in 1890. Sixty-three years later the Broadway production Kismet opened featuring songs adapted by Robert Wright and George Forrest from the music of Borodin. Arguably, the most popular of the show’s songs was Stranger in Paradise, which was based on the Gliding Dance of the Maidens from the Polovtsian Dances of Prince Igor.     This beautiful brass quintet arrangement of Gliding Dance of the Maidens was adapted from the orchestra score. The key is A major, time signature is 4/4 and tempo marking is Andantino at the opening, slowing to a suggested quarter note = 63 at measure 15. Trumpets, Horn in F and Trombone all play a few grace notes. Highest notes for Trumpets are their G-sharp just above the staff; for Trombone, E above the staff. While not particularly challenging technically, the key to playing this piece is interpretation and feeling.    This arrangement was completed in 2017, and performance time runs about 2 minutes, 38 seconds. Great for any occasion, it's guaranteed to be a hit at your next performance! The Arranger:Alexander Burden is a Florida born, professional musician and music educator residing in Southwest Florida. There, he is the music teacher at Westside Elementary in Clewiston. Concurrent with his duties at Westside, he also teaches private and group instrumental music lessons and preforms regularly with various professional ensembles throughout Southwest Florida. Burden holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree with an instrumental concentration from the Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida. There he studied under world renowned saxophonist Mario Bernardo. He also holds an Associate of Arts degree with a Music Education and Saxophone Performance concentration from Eastern Florida State College where he was a student of James Bishop. During his time at the Bower School of music, he served as principle saxophonist in the FGCU Wind Orchestra, lead alto in the Jazz Band Flight: Jazz at FGCU, and played soprano saxophone in the Bower Saxophone Quartet. Alexander was selected to play tenor saxophone in the 2017 National Intercollegiate Band as well as principle alto saxophone in the 2017 Florida All-State Intercollegiate Band and tenor saxophone in the 2016 Florida All-State Intercollegiate Band. In November of 2015, Alexander participated in a critically acclaimed performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City with the FGCU Wind Orchestra.

Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1093770).     The dictionary defines revel as “a time or instance of carefree fun.†The verb tipple refers to the imbibing of spirits. A tippler is one who drinks beer, wine, whiskey or other such spirituous liquids. So a tipplers revel would be a gathering of folks who, in the words of Dolly Parton’s “Two Doors Down,†are “laughing and drinking and having a party.†    This Tipplers Revel is a compilation of traditional drinking songs. It begins and ends with that bane of school trips, faculty sponsors, bus drivers and chaperones, “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.†And between those two bookends come “Rye Whiskey,†“Little Brown Jug,†“Landlord, Fill the Flowing Bowl,†“Jimmy Crack Corn,†“Beer, Beer, Beer (An Ode to Charlie Mops, The Man Who Invented Beer),†“Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight,†“Wein, Weib und Gesang [Wine, Woman, and Song],†“Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes,†“There Is a Tavern in the Town,†“Good Night, Ladies,†“How Dry I Am,†and brief quotes from about a half dozen other melodies associated with quaffing.     For the most part, this arrangement’s time signature is 4/4 and should be played at about 120 BPM. There are, however, two sections of 3/4 time, one of which is marked “tempo di valse,†and the opening and ending few measures should be played rather slowly.     The music should be well within the normal range of the group. Possible exceptions: trumpets play their A above the staff a couple of times.     There are quite a few 16th notes in the allegro sections. (And one could make the argument that at least two sections ought to have been written in 6/8 time. But they weren’t.)     Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 6 minutes, 43 seconds.
