A collection of six duets and six trios written with the youngest players in mind!Ranges limited so that students can focus on rhythmic accuracy, tone quality, dynamics, and expression.Rhythms are limited to whole, dotted half, half, quarter, and paired eighth notes. Rhythms that even the youngest musicians can count! No syncopation!Each piece is about one minute in length to accommodate the limited stamina of younger players.A variety of styles and moods to motivate studentsEvery measure of each part is numbered! You're welcome! Duets may be performed by any two instruments, with like or mixed instrumentation, but if you use mixed instrumentation you may have better results if upper instruments play the top line and lower instruments play the bottom line. Also, it may be preferable to avoid having two tubas, as the results may be less desirable.Trios should be performed by two higher pitched instruments and one lower pitched instrument. Parts 1 and 2 could be flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, or horn. Bridges to the SkyPittsburgh Rhapsody (2008) for brass band was commissioned by the River City BrassBand, Denis Colwell, music director, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of thecity of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with support from the Pittsburgh 250 CommunityConnections Committee.The first movement, Tributaries, is inspired by Pittsburgh as a city of three rivers andparticularly the confluence of two rivers to form one. Throughout the movementthere are a number of places where two ideas converge to become one. Opening witha fanfare-like gesture, the music then becomes more flowing before building up againto a climax.The second movement, Memorial Song, is a lyrical duet for flugelhorn and euphonium.The movement was not conceived as a specific memorial, but its lyrical and elegiacmood represents the many memorials that we all celebrate, both personal andcorporate.The third movement, Bridges to the Sky, celebrates Pittsburgh as a city of bridges. This song was a mega hit for the country music legend Johnny Cash, which featured his deep bass voice. This arrangement is a showcase for one of the tubas playing the melody. The Euphoniums play the role of the Mariachi Trumpets from the original recording. The range of the solo is only up to the fourth space G in the staff. The range of the other three parts is also moderate. Ring Of Fire could be performed with two Euphoniums and Bb or C on the 2nd part and any Tuba on the solo part. This arrangement would add a fun twist in programming. Remember to have your audience clap on beats 1 and 3.
