Used as a compliment to any band method, this collection helps to bridge the gap between unison playing and the more ambitious ensemble repertoire that requires both independence and sometimes extreme patience, especially for those that do not carry the melody. With Schnoodles, each part takes turns carrying and supporting the melody giving each player the opportunity to experience both roles simultaneously. While Schnoodles give each player a lot to play, they also give players some creative choices. None come with a prescribed tempo, and most allow students to determine the appropriate articulations and dynamics for the piece based on their abilities, preferences, and interpretations - and hopefully - guidance from a teacher! The duets have been written to be a comfortable range for any of the instruments (minus horn part, which is free due to the range issues). Each mode has it’s own unique sound and special effort has been made to accentuate the colors from each district combination of notes and the harmonies they produce (Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian). The duets are mostly on an average high school level player, but can be a great challenge for younger players. More advanced musicians may find use specifically in the exploration of melody/harmony in each particular mode. No syncopation!Each piece is about one minute in length to accommodate the limited stamina of younger players.A variety of styles and moods to motivate studentsEvery measure of each part is numbered! You're welcome! Duets may be performed by any two instruments, with like or mixed instrumentation, but if you use mixed instrumentation you may have better results if upper instruments play the top line and lower instruments play the bottom line. Also, it may be preferable to avoid having two tubas, as the results may be less desirable.Trios should be performed by two higher pitched instruments and one lower pitched instrument. The publication consists of full scores for each hymn plus separate instrumental parts and an optional simplified keyboard part. All the arrangements are in four parts, reflecting the traditional SATB voicing. The parts include 1st trumpet in B flat; 2nd trumpet in B flat; horn in F; horn in E flat; trombone and optional tuba; optional bass in B flat and bass in E flat. There are also two optional baritone parts in B flat (TC) and C (BC) in case you need them. They are the same as the tenor part. In some carols, you might prefer to assign any baritones to doubling the bass or doubling the melody an octave lower. The baritone part in C is also playable by trombone. The trombone and tuba parts appear on a single staff. Of course, you can use any number of instruments to a particular part. In it, the poet is sad that the object of his desire runs away and hides when he tries to kiss her.I decided to use two euphoniums/baritones for the soloists, with the accompaniment managed by 1 cornet/trumpet, a horn and a tuba. I managed to retain the quintet as the accompaniment is very simple, almost 'secco' in styleThe seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.)Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.

The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.)Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.

The title translate as I want to kiss you, so typifies the kind of love songs that Monteverdi was writing. The poet is singing these words to his lover Phyllis, so we can probably assume that he is Amyntas. In the poem he is deciding where to plant his first kiss. The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.) Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.
