From the Music of Black Composers Series is this arrangement of the third movement Humor from William Grant Still's Afro-American Symphony for a brass choir of 4 B-flat trumpets, 4 horns in F, 3 trombones, euphonium and tuba. Still's Afro-American Symphony was one of the most significant classical orchestra compositions of the early 1930s to incorporate African-American folk influences. Premiered by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra at conductor Howard Hanson's notable American Music Festival, it brought the flavor of the Blues and folk music to the symphony. For Still the Blues was a distinct African-American musical contribution he incorporated into a symphonic work. As part of the early 20th Century Harlem Renaissance in New York City, the work was enthusiastically received across the USA and overseas. This brass choir arrangement of the third movement will enliven concerts with its colorful rhythms reminiscent of Gershwin and blues harmonies. It is a work song, from the point of view of dock workers working the night shift loading bananas onto ships. The lyrics describe how daylight has come, their shift is over, and they want their work to be counted up so that they can go home.The best-known version was released by American singer Harry Belafonte in 1956 and later became one of his signature songs.I am happy to present this arrangement to you in the original key. Other percussive instruments may be used, including steal drums, using the basic rhythms contained herein.

It is arranged for four low brass parts and a tuba (Bb Bass). All the brass parts come in both treble and bass clef. Could be played by any combination of trombones, baritones, euphoniums, Bb Basses, BBb Tubas. Say you have two euphoniums the read treble clef, a trombone player who reads bass clef and a euphonium who reads bass clef. This arrangement is easily adaptable.If your group is used to reading brass band parts and needs to read treble clef in all five parts. Fine. If your group reads world parts, you are covered. If you used a bass trombone to play the tuba part it would even serve as a trombone choir piece.All God's Creature Got a Place in the Choir is a fun and simple little diddy that the smash group Celtic Thunder turned into a fun and simple hit. At the end of most of the episodes from the 1978 TV Series, The Incredible Hulk, the main character, David Banner, is shown leaving whatever town or city he was in, walking alone down the highway, sometimes hitch-hiking, as he has typically destroyed buildings, human lives, and relationships as his Hulk persona earlier in the episode and can no longer show his face in town. The music that accompanies this ending scene is the tragic and sad The Lonely Man. It is so stereotypically and overly dramatic, that it has become something of an internet meme, being featured on an episode of Family Guy as well as numerous Youtube videos. This setting for brass quintet stays faithful to the original version for solo piano by Joe Harnell and captures the mournful and sad atmosphere perfectly.

This brass choir arrangement set for an orchestral brass section of Coleridge-Taylor's Sea Drift captures the subtle textures of the composer’s chromatic harmonies inspired in his original vocal octet setting of a poem by T. B. Aldrich. Born of an African father, Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer and conductor who was an influential advocate for Black composers. One of Coleridge-Taylor's rare A Cappella compositions for vocal SATB double choir here arranged for large brass ensemble, Sea Drift is infused with descriptive tone-color painting highlighting the tragic story of the merchant sailor who perishes in a stormy sea to the despair of his lover onshore. The arrangement is scored for an orchestral brass section of three B-flat trumpets with alternate C trumpet parts, four horns , three trombones and tuba.
