It was recorded in 1928 by Harry McClintock and popularized in the 1930s by Woody Guthrie and in the 1960s by Pete Seeger. It is included in McIntire's series, Mountain Mommas Fiddle Tunes. Other tunes in the series include Whiskey Before Breakfast, West Fork Gals, and Kitchen Girl, all available at this web site.

The seventh of eight volumes in the Violin Collections series pupils' books. Seven pieces each a bit more demanding than in the previous volumes. The idea is to give students plenty of learning material so that they have something new to tackle without the teacher necessarily telling them what to do. Being folk tunes, some of the students will already known the tunes, though they have been slightly adapted so that they can be played with the other stringed instruments without causing many technical challenges. If the students don't know the tunes, now is the chance to catch up on some traditions! The accompaniment book is available separately and includes parts for a violinist, the teacher or mature player and keyboard. Collections will be available for Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. All can play and learn together and the books can be used for ensembles and for sight reading.Learning topics are included at the beginning of each Collection. It is possible to buy the collections in eight volumes, one whole volume, 76 pieces or split into two parts.On January 14th 2023 just the Violin Collections are available to download.
