I Want It That Way is one of the Backstreet Boys' biggest hits, and anyone who grew up in the 90's and early 2000's probably knows this one by heart! This version for solo violin was originally written for a wedding ceremony, but it will also be perfect for cocktails, receptions, pop concerts, solo & ensemble contest, and any other occasion that needs some boy band throwback nostalgia -- you're sure to get everyone singing along! No accompaniment part -- it stands alone, or can be played with a backing track for solo gigs. This arrangement is rated advanced-intermediate for a few high notes and some tricky rhythms, and it will be playable for students and sightreadable for professionals. (Watch out for the key change to B major at the end!) Sarah “Cellobat†Chaffee is an in-demand acoustic & electric cellist and string arranger. Programme Notes: This composition was written to be considered for pairing alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the Eroica, but can stand on its own virtues as an intense and slow meditation on heroism. The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles. The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  The second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners. Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Published by ViolinVagabond Music (A0.845984). This is an original Celtic fiddle tune that I wrote & performed with my live-looping duo, The Khromatiks, in 2015. It was originally conceived as a loop station composition for 7-string electric violin, but can also be performed as a fiddle solo with any form of standard accompaniment. The looper arrangement was recorded on 7-string violin with a Boomerang III loop station. That being said, there are plenty of other gear configurations that will work. Any phrase looper/sampler that is capable of playing 2 tempo-synced tracks with overdubs will be able to handle this structure, such as the Singular Sound Aeros, BOSS RC-30, Ableton Live with a MIDI controller, etc. If you don't play 7-string, a 5-string can also play this chart as written if you use an octave pedal to record the low bass lines. A standard 4-string can play all of the melodies & harmonies, but some accompaniment parts in the loop arrangement will have to be transposed 8va.The tune itself is a fairly standard Celtic jig+reel medley. In the loop station arrangement there is an extended opening that explores some suspended harmonies over a pedal-tone D. String pads & chopping grooves are stacked in the accompaniment track to bring in a more modern fusion approach to the Celtic sound.With The Khromatiks this piece was performed as a duo with violin & drums/percussion, but as I mentioned it also works as a violin solo. Using the included lead sheets, you can perform this with guitar, piano, bass, etc. The sky is the limit, feel free to get creative and share your performance!Please, if you have questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me via my website, www.kylepudenz.com/, or on Instagram @theviolinvagabond

This makes it so the songs can fit into a binder, without the need for flipping pages! Another great thing (for multi-instrumental arrangements) is that I include cue lines on each part, so that every player in the ensemble can see one other person’s music at the same time. This is so amazingly useful and has saved countless performances in the past. If someone skips a beat or misses a measure, you can now see where they are and reconnect! Vivaldi, Largo from Winter (The Four Seasons) Advanced Intermediate LevelUnaccompanied Violin part: 1 pageTime: 2:00Yes, making music with others is one of the best things about being a violinist, and a string duo, trio or quartet is great for weddings and other private or corporate events.  But sometimes through constraints of availability / space / budget – or just for the thrill of it - we need to go it alone.  That’s when music for unaccompanied violin (not merely solo violin) comes into its own.Here’s the slow movement from Vivaldi's Winter concerto, from The Four Seasons, with the bass line folded into the violin part. I've recorded this with eighth notes, but think of them more as indications than full-length quavers, so you can take care of the upper line. I've written in some ornamentation as well - but feel free to improvise, if you're that way inclined!If you like this, please check out my other arrangements for unacompanied violin, including Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Classic Jazz.
