This is an arrangement of Cheyenne, written by Bill Monroe. I've incorporated my favorite elements of both Kenny Baker and Bobby Hicks playing styles. Complete with detailed fingerings and bow markings and careful consideration in regards to phrasing and playability. Alternate fingerings are offered below the staff that may benefit violinists with smaller hands.I recommend practicing the chords slowly and following the bowing closely, especially in section A. The continuous line keeps the melody going with a rhythmic feel.One thing that sets my arrangements apart from others is that I fit all of my parts on no more than 2 sheets of music. This makes it so the songs can fit into a binder, without the need for flipping pages!Another great thing (for multi-instrumental arrangements) is that I include cue lines on each part, so that every player in the ensemble can see one other person’s music at the same time. This is so amazingly useful and has saved countless performancesin the past. If someone skips a beat or misses a measure, you can now see where they are and reconnect! This also helps with sight-reading and keeping the group together in general.

If you're looking at this you probably love bluegrass as much as I do. I typed up this arrangement for fiddle in the style of Kenny Baker. I've added my own bowings and fingerings based on what feels right and sounds good to me. Slides are marked with either a slanted line or the word slide. The two slanted lines in m. 17, however, mean to lift off at the end of the bow stroke. This helps give a skipping sound to the last note of the measure and puts you at the frog, the perfect setup for the long bows at m. 18-20. I also recommend doing a lift off at the end of the half note in m. 23. The form is ABCB, and on your last pass through the progression follow the To Coda to the Coda / Ending. This arrangement includes the melody, along with fills to link each phrase. This creates a very full sound, providing a cohesive interpretation of a larger-ensemble orchestration. I have written exercises which sound melodic and also help practice various skills. These 10 violin studies are intermediate level and fun to play. They are not just groups of notes put together. There are bowing and fingering indications. Each study can be played alone, with an accompanist or with the optional piano play-along tracks. The mp3s were recorded in strict time, for ease of playing along. If you play the pieces alone or with a live accompanist, feel free to give them your own interpretations. These studies help you practice your bowing, your rhythm, your note reading, fingering and scale evenness. Playing with the optional accompaniments helps you hear intonation and gives you experience playing in an ensemble, whether your partner is a live accompanist or just your mp3 player. There are two mp3s available for each study: 1. A piano play-along track in a slower tempo; 2. The same piano play-along track, but more up-tempo, for when you have learned a piece, or want to challenge yourself. Each study includes a piano cue at the beginning, so you know when to start playing if you’re playing with a play-along track or with a pianist.
