Published by Pietro Prugna (A0.497961). JS Bach has written numerous amazing Fugues. This piece was originally written for Solo Violin. For beginners, it may be difficult to hear the different parts for the piece and technically difficult to play the piece. In this arrangement, the voices are split into 3 violins. This enables violinists to play this piece together and appreciate the various parts both separately and together in the Fugue. While doing the arrangement, reference was made with JS Bach's own transcription of this piece for Organ (BWV 539). With the expanded musical palette of the Organ transcription, much insight can be gained into Bach's ideas on this Fugue. Portions of the Organ version were incorporated to this arrangement, especially where there is only 1 melody line. In addition, the theme is also repeated over some single melody lines. The pdf contains Full Score of 3 Violins and Set of Parts (Violin I, Violin II and Violin III). The Parts are formatted for easy page turning and reading.

Stefano Maria Torchio: ScherzinoAs the title says (engl.: little scherzo), it's a small, playful, light and bouncy piece, that features a free atonal style and funny asimmetrical rhythms and metrics. It's not difficult but it could be wise to practice it slower at first, in order to check careful the intonation and the correct smooth and legato articulation between the fingers of left hand of the Violin player. The most careful precision in rhythm and differentiation between the articulations (that in general tends to a light staccato) is required.The piece is also suitable for school pourposes and concerts and also for liturgical ones (for example at the offertory or as final piece) by special festive occasion. Primarily it was composed for a wedding ceremony and it was for Piano and Organ and for Church Bell Carillon.Composer's dataStefano Maria Torchio, born in Padova (Italy), studied Orchestra and Choir Conducting at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna respectively with U. Lajovic, J. Wildner, E. Ortner and T. Lang. Further studies in Conducting pursued Torchio with Z. Metha, F. Luisi, R. Muti, B. de Billy, S. Young and G. Andretta, as well as with R. Pachelbel's Canon Pachelbel's Canon is, in fact, the traditional title for a composition by the German composer Johann Pachelbel. Other names for the work include namely: Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo, Canon and Gigue in D, and of course Canon in D. We do not know when or why in particular it was written. The oldest copy is surprisingly from the 19th century. It is important to realize that it was a common routine for organists to practice improvisation on the chord progression underlying the canon. Pachelbel originally scored the Canon notably for three violins and continuo. He also in fact paired the Canon with a gigue. The movements are homotonal, to clarify, both are in the key of D major. History In due time, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style and remained in virtual oblivion for centuries. The Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra, however, recorded an arrangement of it in 1968. As a result, it gained approval. Many ensembles began likewise to record the piece in the 1970s and by the 1980s became ubiquitous as background music. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, pop songs correspondingly used elements of the piece. The chord progression, in particular, was used this way. Also, since the 1980s, it has been not only wildly popular for weddings, but also for funeral ceremonies in the USA and Europe. Pachelbel Background Johann Pachelbel (1653 –1706) was a German composer, as well as an organist. He was furthermore instrumental in bringing the south German organ school to its apex. He wrote a large body of music, both sacred and, equally important, secular. In particular, he uniquely helped develop the chorale prelude and fugue. For this, he has, in fact, earned a rightful place in the company of the most significant composers of the mid-Baroque period. Works Pachelbel's music was certainly popular. With this in mind, he also consequently had many pupils. His music expressly developed into a model for south German composers. Nowadays, Pachelbel is most famous, particularly for the Canon in D, as well as the F minor Chaconne, the Toccata in E minor, and of course the Hexachordum Apollinis, a set of variations for the keyboard. Influences Johann Jakob Froberger and Johann Caspar Kerll were south German composers who significantly influenced Pachelbel. Furthermore, he was especially influenced by Italians such as Frescobaldi and Poglietti. He frequently preferred an articulate, simple contrapuntal style that highlighted clarity. His music is markedly less extravagant and harmonically adventurous than that of Dieterich Buxtehude. However, as a point often overlooked, like Buxtehude, Pachelbel experimented with different instrumental combinations in his chamber music. Legacy All in all, Pachelbel was most famous as a composer for the keyboard. He composed over two hundred pieces specifically for the instrument. Pachelbel was also surprisingly a prolific composer of vocal music. All in all, about a hundred vocal works survive, including 40 or so large-scale works.

In 1576 he published a collection entitled Intavolatura di Cimbalo, which contained Lo Ballo dell ’Intorcia (Intorcia’s Dance).Lo Ballo begins very simply – deceptively simply – building around a lovely repeating chord pattern. But watch out – if you start off too quickly, those variations will tie your fingers into Gordian knots! The chord voicings are for octave mandola/bouzouki but can easily be adapted to any accompanying instrument – just keep those repeating chords in a simple rhythm. Just listening to this piece can leave you breathless!

When I studied violin, it was strictly a solitary experience. I played by myself, or with my teacher accompanying me; everything I learned – sonatas, concertos, concert pieces – were for solo violin. True, I played in an orchestra, and when I was in high school found my way into a beginning string quartet, but all of my experience with violin pedagogy was solitaire. When I started teaching, I adopted a completely different approach. I believe that music is a social, not a solitary activity. So the first piece my students learn is a duet. And everything thereafter involves playing and learning in groups. These two games are part of a larger work presenting my approach to teaching. It is a work in progress, and I hope to be adding organically to it as my experience grows. The vocal parts are an SATB choir which sings the Scriptural words. This is a great sacred piece for choirs and orchestras as well as church services. Chi passa per ’sta stradaThe sixteenth-century Italian composer, Filippo Azzaiolo (1530-1569), published three books of villotas (secular songs). In the first of these, Primo libro de villotte alla padoana a quattro voci, the first song (also the most popular) was Chi passa per ’sta strada (He who passes down this street). An exquisite chord sequence provide the basis for a simple melody, together with a set of variations I composed.The left-hand part (quite odd really, as I don’t play any keyboard instrument, but I’m sure you know what I mean!) shows the chords as I would play them on an octave mandola or a bouzouki (both tuned GDAE, one octave below mandolin or violin), and the chord diagrams show my fingerings for these. Other accompanists can simply use the chords’ letter names, also included, and work out their own fingerings/voicings. However, I strongly recommend keeping accompaniment simple and percussive, accentuating the rhythm, allowing the mandolin or other lead instrument space in which to play those variations.
