Composition and characteristics All of Me is a jazz standard whose lyrics and music were written by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons in 1931. It has an ABAC structure and was originally written in the key of B-flat major.The melody combines the music's contradictory possibilities. The downward thrusts of the opening phrases suggest emotional despair, while the final line, with its repeated high notes, sounds almost jubilant. It usually runs in an average time.All of Me first came to public notice when a performance by Belle Baker was broadcast on the radio in 1931. After that a few others also became successful.Frank Sinatra recorded several versions of All of Me. Its 1948 release peaked at No. 21. He also sang it in the film Meet Danny Wilson, which may have helped Johnnie Ray's performance reach No. 12 in the charts that year. Sinatra's use of All of Me brought a non-jazz audience to the song, as did Willie Nelson, whose version was included on his Stardust album and reached No. 3 on the Hot Country Songs chart in 1978. In 2000, All of Me of Me received the Towering Song Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

None of my success would have been possible but for my Dad and Mom. My memories of my Dad and my Mom flooded my mind like a deluge. When I heard the news about how gravely ill he was I thought to myself that so often we give thanks, honor, or show our love when it is too late. Who wants to be that person? I was finally in the unique position to show my gratitude and love to my parents in the most special way that I could - through music from my heart and soul. I got the courage to look deeply within and then I began to write what was to become the first and second songs, respectively Tears from My Eyes: Remember Your Feelings and Tears from My Eyes: Reflection and Contemplation on my Tears from My Eyes: Songs from my Soul album.You will now be able to do just the same for your loved ones with this new music. Your intermediate level to advanced students and even professional musicians should find this to be a welcomed piece to learn and master. It looks deceptively simple but the learning and challenge comes from two smaller sub-ensembles playing together in their own collective units legato con moto while playing together as a whole music ensemble Everyone will enjoy and bathe in the beautiful harmonies that will resonate when the entire music ensemble begins to listen to each while playing together as a group. Your musicians will hone their skills in playing together with just the right balance that this song requires. Your musicians will also hone their skills for subdividing and maintaining an inner beat that is in sync with your conducting because there is no percussion and the notes are freely flowing on and off the down beat yet not sounding heavily syncopated when performed. When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now the final and 5th movement to Tears from my Eyes - Onward and Upward (for String Orchestra). This particular was created and produced after the Songs from My Soul album was sent for distribution. So, this song has yet to be officially released. All five movements will be released as an album Mourning in the Rain. This 5th movement Onward and Upward has a decisive emotional resolution and conviction in its pathos. The dynamics reflect accordingly ranging from mf to fff indicative of overcoming adversity and grief. By Mike Strand, ASCAP This is a lead sheet for a jazz combo or ensemble, a good basis for a variety of arrangements, improvisations, or contrafacts. The audio sample is my melody from Finale PrintMusic, combined with an iReal Pro swing accompaniment. I’ve designated the melody for solo violin, an instrument that I would like to see and hear more often in jazz ensembles. You will hear a violin carry the melody in the audio sample. Playing the solo on violin solves a possible difficulty in performance. Problem: This piece may be too challenging for many wind instrument players (brass, woodwind). Solution: This piece is well suited to a non-wind instrument player! Violin springs to mind. Violin is especially appropriate here: This tune has lots of notes; similar to a solo violin partita prelude or up-tempo dance movement by J. S. Bach. A wind instrument player told me that finding spots for taking a breath was a challenge. This is not to discourage wind players from experimenting with the piece, adjusting it in places if necessary. A wind player may include more breathing spots for relief in his or her improvisation! Note for composers: I adapted this piece from the 5th (swing) movement of my Partita II, for solo violin, also for sale on this site.
