Giant Steps - Transcribed solo ( starts to 2:54 ) by Katsumi WF violinist. Used the same note range as the Coltrane's Saxophone Solo sound and adjusted to violin note range that is possible to play by violin half position to 1st position only. ( But it's not for beginner! ) Some of the notations are written by #s with #chourds instead of the flat chords to make phrasing more comfortable for the violinists. Those are not the best way to write if I needed to follow the western classical musical theory. Although, I wrote that way for tons of reasons. Just discuss with your musicians or mentors and then find a better way for you.This music sheet might be used for understanding / learning the ideas of phrasing he improvised, not just for performing the same solo to show off! These bowing exercises are so helpful for absolute beginners, to learn the basic techniques (and art!) of starting & stopping rhythmically using half and whole bows. More bow divisions and rhythms are introduced, using open strings A-D-G-E. Then basic 5-note scales on E using the different placement of whole & half-steps. The following pages have fingering charts/tablatures to correlate note names on the violin with treble clef written underneath, and a suggested practice exercise. The charts are great to have as reference to help learn the letter names that match with the fingering numbers in first position.
