W S Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan were major figures in musicaltheatre of the Victorian era, collaborating on a series of extremely popularcomic operettas, which lampooned some of the fashions and conventions of thetime.

This duet from the second act of Iolanthe involves Strephon, the half-fairy, half-mortal son of thetitular character, and Phyllis, the lady whom he loves. The two have just become reconciled after arift and recognise that they should marry quickly, before they lose theirattraction for one another, or one of them falls for someone else.
