This hymn prelude takes the 18th century Irish tune for the hymn Thy Kingdom Come and is suitable to be played before or after church services on the organ. Services such a Christ the King or services during advent are suitable times to play this piece. The style of the music is inspired by the traditions of the Baroque period, as it uses a cantus firmus melody which is accompanied by contrapuntal textures. .

My Variations on Holiness (Take Time to Be Holy) require a wide range of technical prowess from near beginner (Variation II) to advanced (Variation IV). The Theme presents the unadorned hymn tune, but with a new harmonization. Variation I is a canon in which the imitative entries for each phrase occur at varying intervals. In Variation II (for the hands only) the unadorned tune is accompanied by an unrelenting stream of sixteenth notes in the relative minor key. In Variation III (entitled Pastorale) each phrase of the tune is preceded by a freely composed introductory segment. The final variation (entitled Toccata) is by far the most challenging. It moves at a rapid tempo in 5/8 meter with individual phrases of the tune appearing sporadically, often in an ornamented guise. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

A solo organ work composed in 2020.This piece was commissioned by Ethan Neal, a student at the University of Kentucky, for a new music project to raise money for cancer research, and dedicated to all those who have fought a battle with cancer. It was premiered on August 22, 2021 by Ethan Neal at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity in Georgetown, KY.Solemn Fanfare has three main ideas or themes: the opening fanfare material and two hymns: Christ the Victorious (RUSSIAN HYMN) and Be Still, My Soul (FINLANDIA). The piece is grandiose throughout and is meant to express the triumph of victory over cancer, whether in this life or the next. The solo trumpet presents RUSSIAN HYMN in an embellished and rhythmically altered manner within the flourishes of the opening and closing sections. In the middle section, FINLANDIA provides the strong chordal foundation above which the solo trumpet adds its triumphant yet sometimes dissonant fanfares, recalling the struggle and the pain that are part of the journey.

Prelude and Fugue on ’Dix’, the tune to which the Christmas carol ’As With Gladness Men of Old’ is sung, consists of a prelude in the style of a stately fanfare and march depicting the majesty of the kings as they make their way to Bethlehem and a fugue in which a variation of the first part of the hymn tune forms the subject which climaxes with a return of the fanfare of the prelude. Although the indicated registration is for three manuals, both movements can be played on two manuals. As the tune is occasionally sung to other hymns at various times of the year, this prelude and fugue is also suitable for other times of the year.

A lively opening, based on fragments from the hymn tune 'York' (sometimes known as ‘Scottish’) leads to a meditative central section in which the hymn-tune is inverted: the opening figures return and a gradual crescendo leads to a grand concluding statement of the hymn.  This work was commissioned by the Leeds Organists' Association in celebration of the 60th Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, and was first performed by Graham Barber on the magnificent Schulze organ of Armley Parish Church near Leeds. Written in E, the work consist of two themes that have hymn-like and chorale qualities interspersed with lighthearted passages that depict the strength and weakness of human nature. The first theme resembles a melody of the ancient church; the melody has a mystical quality depicting God's majesty. The transition is light in content as it gives a listener a break from the serious mood of the first theme. The second theme is a chorale and is chordal in texture; it resembles a church hymn sung in many churches. Moreover, the second theme is written in B Flat Major, depicting one's praising God in spirit; the general mood is quiet. Following that section is the transition that gradually builds up excitement before the restatement of the first theme. The second theme is restated in E Major, but its longer note values are placed over the repeated bass and chordal patterns, a style that many composers use in their works, including Igor Stravinsky's L'Histoire Du Soldat. Once again, the lighthearted transitional passage recurs before the chimes start to strike four times. Following the chimes, the chorale is stated in E Major and begins quietly and builds up power as the work nears its ending; the chorale, unlike its first statement depicts the singing of praise with joy. This piece may be performed in concert halls and churches; it could give people fond memories of recitalists who enjoy bringing excitement to the public.

Published by Rebecca Maughan Cook (A0.908187). In 2021 I wrote this entry for an Organ Composition competition. We were required to use the pitches associated with RC MADER. I wrote this set of Miniatures exploring ideas associated with that. Movement 1 is a Fanfare and Hymn setting. Movement 2 is the only time the Pitches are played in entirety and I turned it into a Theme of Love. It's one of my favorite movements from this set. Movement 3 is a Blues with almost all the notes using the given pitches. Movement 4 is such a quirky little piece! It's a March and all the notes are from RC Mader. It was very fun to write. Movement 5 is a Toccata and in order to meet the requirement I placed some chords in inversion for the pedals and picked up the root on the LH. It's busy and beautiful. It's my other favorite movement. I'm uploading a midi recording of this. The first four movements are pretty accessible, but the 5th movement is more challenging. Have fun!
