Compositions for voice include masses, responses, psalm settings, hymns for congregation, choral music and solos.TEXT:The Spirit of the Lord is upon us. Send your Spirit upon us in this time and place, the Spirit who gives us comfort, the Spirit who brings light to our eyes, the Spirit who helps us say yes to your summoning Word.Bless us, Father, as you have done before, with the gift of your Spirit that he may stir new life within us.Blest are you in ev'rything that your Spirit makes new, now and for all ages to come.The source of this text is unknown. Though appropriate for Pentecost there is no direct connection to the scripture readings or sacramentary prayers for that Feast. The composition was written in the early years succeeding Vatican II (October 11, 1962 – December 8, 1965), a time of creative freedom. The language is period specific to that time, yet the music is universal.Rehearsal recommendation:The verse text is notated in consistent eighth-notes. The text is by Picander, one of Bach's favorite librettists. of the four cantatas written by Bach for the feast (72, 73, 111 and 156), it was the last, and the only one scored for solo voice. Like Cantatas 73 and 111, it is a choral cantata, employing a choral melody in several movements. Cantata 156, in fact, employs two different melodies and choral texts in the second and sixth (final) movements, respectively; the second uses Machs mit mir, Gott, nach deiner Güt (Schein, 1628), which Herr, wie du willt, so schicks mit mir (Binemann, 1582) is reserved for the finale. This version of the piece was adapted for Organ along with a piano accompaniment that comes with the product.

My Prelude on the hymn tune Revive Us Again (We Praise Thee O God) was conceived for a three-manual organ and has a somewhat challenging pedal part. The harmonic idiom reflects the influence of certain 20th century techniques (such as building chords by fourths), which create a sound world that, while still tonal, embraces somewhat greater dissonance than traditional practice allowed. Modern ears though are accustomed to, and even enjoy, such sounds. The introduction and interludes are based upon a rhythmic motive taken from the hymn tune, which itself is treated canonically at one point. In another instance, even two different phrases are vertically combined. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

This is an arrangement of a familiar chorale tune. It is scored for organ, manuals only. Therefore, the score can also easily be played on the piano as an alternative. The arrangement features canonic imitation, including imitation of a horn call between chorale phrases. The final phrase of the chorale ends with a deceptive cadence on the subdominant chord, setting up a final, extended Amen closing. This is at an intermediate level of difficulty.

German • English • French.Orpheus is one of 12 symphonic poems composed by Franz Liszt between 1848 and 1858. Liszt regarded these compositions as representing a higher form of musical creation. Their genesis in what he described as a poetic idea allowed him to favour freedom of expression over the constraints of form. The score of 'Orpheus' was first performed on 16 February 1854, under the baton of the composer, as the curtain rose for a production of Gluck's opera 'Orpheus' in Weimar. It had been inspired in particular by the contemplation in the Louvre museum in Paris of an Etruscan vase despicting Orpheus as a symbol of beauty and civilisation, mitigating the brutality of the world through the power of his art. This symphonic poem was first transcribed for organ in about 1860 by Alexander Wilhelm Gottschalk (1827-1908), one of Liszt's pupils. It appears that Liszt was moved to make radical modifications to that version, in spite of which it still remains unsatisfactory. It does, however, give us the benefit of proving that Liszt, who also transcribed the work for piano duet, was not against the idea in itself of a transcription for organ. Jean Guillou's transcription is more than a simple adaptation. As far as Romantic music is concerned, he is responsible for finding appropriate equivalents to the dramatic function of instrumentation to create an atmosphere which comes as close to that of the original composition as possible, to enrich the contrapuntal texture and to contribute to the simulation of the orchestral sound.

I wanted all the notes to resonate and soar in a way I couldn't initially figure out until a eureka moment popped in my head - the organ. I added organ pedals that create the perfect music canvas foundation while the moving melody and harmonies weave in and out of each other. The song takes a whole new meaning that which is more befitting of the cathedral pipe organ's emotive grandeur. In essence it sounded like a completely different song than its piano counterpart. So, I named this organ piece Mysterium Tenebris meaning, Dark Mystery in Latin. The song conveys just that, a sense of dark mystery with the organ's timbre resonating a Gothic musical flavor to the piece. I wanted all the notes to resonate and soar in a way I couldn't initially figure out until a eureka moment popped in my head - the organ. I added organ pedals that create the perfect music canvas foundation while the moving melody and harmonies weave in and out of each other. The song takes a whole new meaning that which is more befitting of the cathedral pipe organ's emotive grandeur. In essence it sounded like a completely different song than its piano counterpart. So, I named this organ piece Mysterium Tenebris meaning, Dark Mystery in Latin. The song conveys just that, a sense of dark mystery with the organ's timbre resonating a Gothic musical flavor to the piece.
