Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20100). Barbara Heller dedicated this chorale to the memory of Elke Mascha Blankenburg (1943–2013). Talking about her before the first performance, the composer said: ‘She was open-hearted with a really tender soul, very trusting. Her creativity knew no limits; she was also an almost fanatical campaigner for music by women. In the music you will hear now I have attempted to convey some aspects of her personality: charming, loving, obstinate, committed, volatile, tragic, crazy, untamed, tender and anguished.’ The various sections of this chorale may be performed in a correspondingly contrasting manner: searching, hesitant, visionary, focused, volatile, accusatory, hopeful, etc., with use of rubato and powerful contrasts in dynamic and tone quality. The registration for this edition was devised in the Church of the Resurrection in Fürth. It is a model that may be adapted freely for other organs, perhaps substituting new and different sound features. Also available for clarinet and organ (KLB 99).

My Festive Voluntary is cast in a three-part ABA form. The outer sections, in the key of C-sharp minor, convey the effect of a pompous slow-moving march. By contrast, the middle section, in the key of A-flat major, has a song-like character, with its soprano melody supported by by long sustained chords underneath. Then a 14-bar segment, acting as as bridge, assumes the rhythmic character of the first section, while modulating quickly through a succession of keys to reach the key of C-sharp minor once again. The final section recapitulates the first section, though with a few minor changes. This piece serves equally well as a recital piece or church prelude. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for my numerous hymn arrangements, some for organ and others for piano.

My Partita on Sweet Hour (Sweet Hour of Prayer) presents the theme with an original 4-part harmonization followed by five variations. The first variation is a duo in which the tune is set against a continuous stream of sixteenth notes as accompaniment. The second variation is a waltz in the key of F-sharp major in which an ornamented and expanded version of the melody is accompanied by a modified um-pah-pah accompaniment played by the feet and left hand. By contrast, variation three, in the key of B minor, moves at a much slower pace and conveys a rather sombre mood. The next variation set in 5/8 meter is somewhat like a scherzo. Each phrase of the melody is in a different key and has modal inflections that lends it a mildly exotic character The fifth and final variation is a toccata in the French style that requires panache and bravura. The tune is intoned in slow moving rhythm by the feet while the hands provide a rapidly moving sextuplet accompaniment. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

Franz Liszt composed his lyrical-meditative organ fantasia on the Ave Maria von Arcadelt in Rome in 1863. In contrast to his major virtuoso works, this charming genre piece can even be easily played on smaller (double-manual) instruments, even without swell-organ and reeds. The 'Liszt organ' at the village church of Denstedt near Weimar, which was built by the Peternell brothers in 1859/60 and has survived in its original state, may be used as an example. It did not become known until in 1927 that the Ave Maria attributed to Jakob Arcadelt (around 1505-1568) was a revised version by the composer Pierre-Louis-Philippe Dietsch (1808–1865) who used the melody of Arcadelt's chanson Nous voyons que les hommes which he then harmonized into his own Romantic four-part choral setting and to which he added the sacred text as a contrafactum. Our separate edition wants to make this rather 'poetic', yet quite easy-to-play organ work without any major technical difficulties accessible to a large circle of interested people.

In medieval times much was made of things like numerology and words, and one day it was discovered that Ave (Hail) spelled backwards was Eva (an archaic spelling of Eve). Thus Ave Eva was Hail, Eve! and Mary was seen as a type of Eve. In other words, Ave Eva read the same forwards and backwards, giving us Hail Mary in both directions. This was seen as a miraculous sign and songs and poems were written about it. The piece given here is my original work for pipe organ, and following the lead of the title and history, it gives the descending figure F-E-D to provide the thematic material, developing into a canon-like style, then reverses the figure later to an ascending D-E-F, eventually playfully mixing both versions of the theme before exploding into an exciting end. The work itself is relatively easy to perform, with perhaps the exception of the duple-over-triplets passage near the end which may require a little more attention than the rest of the piece. For clarity of the lines I have suggested a Principal Chorus, with some contrast provided by passages using Flutes and soft Strings. Thank you for performing this work, and God bless!

Questa raccolta di dieci brani per organo, concepita tra il 2021 e il 2023, rappresenta un passo significativo nel mio percorso compositivo. Manualiter volume II costituisce la continuazione di un viaggio musicale compositivo iniziato con la mia prima raccolta dall’omonimo titolo. Ogni brano è una riflessione sulla potenza espressiva dell'organo, guidata principalmente dai manuali e con l'uso parsimonioso dei pedali. Attraverso queste miniature organistiche, cerco di comunicare la mia visione della musica, invitando gli interpreti e gli ascoltatori ad immergersi in un'esperienza emotiva unica. La sequenza di brani inizia con la complessa Ciaccona palindroma, seguita dalla Ciaccona sopra DCHLA, il cui tema si basa sulle iniziali del mio nome e cognome, conferendo un carattere personale e distintivo. Cantabile d'affetto ed Elevazione introducono emozioni intense e profonde, mentre la Toccata aggiunge dinamismo e vitalità . Herzlich tut mich verlangen merita una menzione speciale. Questo brano è un corale seguito da due variazioni, con il tema tratto dal famoso corale della tradizione luterana dedicato al tempo di passione. Le variazioni esplorano le sfumature emotive del tema, offrendo un viaggio attraverso interpretazioni ricche e personali. La Toccata breve e il Canto di Pace presentano contrasti significativi, evidenziando la mia volontà di esplorare una vasta gamma di atmosfere ed emozioni. Inoltre Canto di Pace è un omaggio musicale alle vittime dell'attacco del 07 ottobre 2023 in Israele, un tentativo di commemorare coloro che hanno perso la vita in quel tragico evento attraverso la potenza emotiva della musica. Le Partite sopra In dulci jubilo si ispirano al corale natalizio della tradizione luterana In dulci jubilo e sono articolate in quattro variazioni, ognuna unica        nel suo approccio e nell'esplorare le possibilità sonore dell'organo. Infine c’è il brano U vaqa Sënd Vit, che tradotto dall'arbëresh significa Sono andato a San Vito. Questo brano è un omaggio alle mie origini arbëresh e trae ispirazione da un canto popolare della comunità arbëresh di Greci ed è dedicato al Cavaliere della Repubblica dott. Bartolomeo Zoccano che tanto si è prodigato per la diffusione della cultura arbëresh. La composizione adotta la forma della variazione, esplorando le potenzialità di questo canto tradizionale attraverso il linguaggio ricco ed evocativo dell'organo. Manualiter volume II rappresenta il frutto del mio impegno e della mia passione per l'arte dell'organo. Confido che questa raccolta possa essere accolta con la stessa gioia e apprezzamento con cui è stata creata, offrendo un viaggio musicale che va oltre le note, esplorando le profondità dell'anima attraverso le tastiere e i pedali dell'organo, e trovi un luogo speciale nei cuori degli organisti, degli appassionati di musica e di tutti coloro che cercano un'esperienza musicale significativa e avvincente.

The text ‘O holy city, seen of John,’ is commonly associated with this tune. The text contrasts the grim realities of early 20th Century cities with the idyllic Holy City, described by John in the Book of Revelation. The darkness of this vision is well-captured by the minor mode and relentless 4/4 rhythm of the original tune. These features are amplified in this prelude and fugue, particularly the inherently chromatic nature of the minor mode. This is an unrelentingly dark work that builds to an immense climax.Technical note: this is a demanding work that requires superior technical ability.

In his Organ Symphony No. 8 'In Memoriam', following an idea of the cathedral organist Silvius von Kessel from Erfurt (and dedicatee of the work), Enjott Schneider carries on where Anton Bruckner left off, processes themes from the latter's Symphony No. 8 variatively and contrasts it to 'Haus-Choral des Erfurter Doms', 'Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme'. Bruckner's material is used as a starting point and further developed by Schneider in four movements: typically enough, the initial movement is called 'Metamorphosen' before an almost eerie atmosphere is created in a 'Scherzo sinistro'. Though the work bearing this title is a portrait of childhood, it is a childhood quite different from the purely gameplaying and dreamlike childhood that is customarily represented. The childhood described here is carrying the seed, in all its purity, of all positive and negative qualities to be found the fully-grown men: a childhood both angelic and diabolical, and indeed very close to Henry James' The Turn of the Screw which was the direct inspiration for this monodrama. Its growth follows the innumerable sudden changes, turns and contrasts of the unsophisticated spirit. There is hardly any development at all, as each idea gives birth to the next or rejects the previons one, being object to every impulse, every tempest, every flux, every fear and delight. After a dreamlike introduction, in which two simple melodies stand out, comes a sudden awakening, Allegro, stamped all over with lavish and forever regenerating dynamism. A sudden halt leads a kind of outburst from the most simple folklore is singing, in regular, repeated notes. Again the question mark leads us to another melody, Tranquillo, of a sweet tempo, but brilliantly decorated with counter-point, its cursive traits leading this time to a kind of roguish march (Vigoroso). Yet soon there emerges a melancholic chant, Largo, in the Cromorne's timbre, and then, in the highest register of the Trumpet there reappears like a metamorphosed memory, the theme of the second movement. Passing other episodes, we come to Tempo giusto, insistent and glorious, interrupted by other passionate figures, cut off by unsettling silent moments and taken up again in always accelerating volleys.

I wrote this piece to use as the opening piece for an organ dedication recital I was playing. I admired this March by Alexander Guilmant, but that piece opened softly and I wanted a bold opening; so I expanded and arranged the piece, using Guilmant's own material, and created new beginning sections so that I could open the dedication concert with trumpets. The piece is now about contrasts as I have changed tempi, dynamics, registrations, and textures to alternate with each section. Many colours of the organ are shown, from reeds to flutes, from mp to tutti. The piece builds to a full and vigorous Tutti climax. 11 pages; 5:45 minutes.
