Intended for the Beginning Organist, all pieces are written in Classical style, all are in Rounded Binary form (ABA), all are in the Key of C, all have very limited pedal use. In other words, these pieces are perfect to have in your repertoire when you need something to pull out at the last minute. Prelude - Soldier's Fanfare is an energetic organ fanfare made up of triads, scales, and arpeggios in very basic form. Pedaling is mostly on the chord root and usually changes just once per bar, and there is no pedaling at all during the middle Swell section. 2 pages, 1:30 minutes Offertory - Music Box Minuet is a delightful Organ Solo for manuals/hands (no pedal part). Both hands are in the Treble Clef. The RH has the melody of mostly quarter notes (crotchets) played on a Flute stop. The LH has mostly 2 note chords, one chord per bar, played on Strings. The A Theme is in 4/4 and the B Theme in 3/4. Each Theme is repeated. 1 page, 1 minute Postlude - Classical Euphoria is an Organ Solo of pure fun. Euphoria--a temporary feeling of excessive happiness and intense joy. That certainly describes this piece of music. This piece puts a smile on my face every time. And it is definitely classical. It is in the Key of C with broken triads and is in Rounded Binary form. The B theme is minor but still happy and energetic. The complete song is Intro-AABBAA-Coda. Pure energy. This tune is from a West Indian carol, so it has Christmas origins, but even if the lyrics are known they are generic enough that you could use this anytime of the year when you want to have fun! Contains 2 key changes, some dynamic echoes, but always with a driving island rhythm. Premiere Performance was at a presentation on Caribbean music, used as an example of typical Caribbean exuberance, structure and form, and Caribbean rhythms, including polyrhythms. Marked as Advanced Intermediate simply because some people have trouble with the rhythms; but otherwise, Early Intermediate. 4 page organ solo. (Apologies for the bad recording equipment; it was recorded on a million dollar pipe organ but I realize it doesn't sound like it.)

Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1135423). 2 Easy Classical Dances are great Organ Solos for lesson learning as well as recitals and service. Both pieces are in the Key of C, both are binary, and both are written in a style reminiscent of Mozart. Both are for manuals only, no Pedal part. They both have an upbeat, happy feel and are fun to play. One is a Minuet and the other is a Gavot. The Gavot introduces Alberti bass, triplets, and different phrasing between the hands. Repeated sections alternate loud-soft, detached-slurred, major-minor. The Minuet has an easy fanfare theme of repeated notes, scales, and arpeggios, then 6 variations which introduce neighbouring notes, tonic minor, inversions, light syncopation, staccato, and octave. Minuet - 5 pages, 2:30 minutes Gavot - 2 pages, 2:00 minutes with cover, 8 page booklet.

This Organ Solo is a dramatic Lament of impassioned sadness and agony. It is in the Phrygian mode with extended compound minor chords. It has constant mood swings from solo clarinet melodic lines of melancholy to thunderous thick chords and back again with bridges of mourning and wailing. The Pedal line is either a drone, or a throbbing pulse, or a descending chromatic line. The style is my own flavor of 20th Century Expressionism. This piece has all of the emotion for a powerful Lenten service or a haunting Halloween concert or a contemporary piece for a recital. 5 pages, 6:15 minutes.

Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1137387). Psalm 22 is a well-known and loved 8 part a capella choral work by Felix Mendelssohn. I have here arranged it for Organ Solo. Psalm 22 is about a person crying out to God to save him from his enemies, then thanks God for rescuing him. Thus, the first half is in E minor and the second half is in E major. Since it no longer has lyrics to convey the meaning I have used new tempi, dynamics, and registration, and also altered some harmonies and rhythms to add the appropriate interest and emotion. In order to create dialogue on the organ I have used unmetered recitative chant followed by metered antiphon in many places. In another section I use overlapping call and response between the hands and manuals. These are interspersed with 4 part Chorales. The mood constantly shifts throughout in many short sections, but the beauty is in the way they fit together creating harmony and polyphony and dialogued emotions. This is a great 9 minute organ Prelude which bridges the Classical and Romantic eras. 9:15 minutes; 11 pages (Apologies- I was in a hurry to record this, so there are a couple of wrong notes and rhythmic inaccuracies in the recording.).

This piece is also excellent for studying different articulations, contrasting between detached, staccato, and slurred. 2 page score, 1:30 minutes This piece is also in the booklet 3 Pieces for Beginning Organist which contains a prelude, offertory, and postlude; also available on this site.

The current media call this style of music Spiritual Minimalism. This particular composition utilizes the centering 'ah' of Buddhism, the meditative resting periods of Zen, the plainchant of Christianity, the minimalism of New Age, and more. My inspiration for the melodic line is the 3 main words in the traditional Ave Maria text; Ave (Hail) higher in the staff for celebration, Gratia (Grace) mid-staff for acceptance, and Dominus (God) low in the staff for humility. The accompaniment is the same in every bar of the entire piece; a circling minimalist 2 chord ostinato which is in 2 voices, the upper voice being an offbeat descending mantra. Whether for personal meditation or public performance, this piece will relax, focus, and recharge all who perform it and hear it. 4 pages; 3:40 minutes.

I wrote this piece to use as the opening piece for an organ dedication recital I was playing. I admired this March by Alexander Guilmant, but that piece opened softly and I wanted a bold opening; so I expanded and arranged the piece, using Guilmant's own material, and created new beginning sections so that I could open the dedication concert with trumpets. The piece is now about contrasts as I have changed tempi, dynamics, registrations, and textures to alternate with each section. Many colours of the organ are shown, from reeds to flutes, from mp to tutti. The piece builds to a full and vigorous Tutti climax. 11 pages; 5:45 minutes.

This Galop and Waltz in Oom-pah style is in AABA form. The A theme is a Vivace 2/4 Galop, then a slower 4/4 bridge to repeat the Galop. Then the B theme is a brisk 3/4 Waltz, right back to the 2/4 Galop. This catchy tune is a rousing crowd pleaser for any concert or recital. Works well with either Classical Organ or Theatre Organ. Perfect for Oktoberfest ! Intermediate because of the always Vivace/brisk tempo and the need for controlled playing of the articulation which always varies from staccato to normal to marcato to slurred. The only use of Pedals is during the 5 bar bridge, the rest is manualiter (hands only). 2 page score 2 minutes.

Music Box Minuet is a delightful Organ Solo for manuals/hands (no pedal part). It is in the Key of C and both hands are in the Treble Clef. The RH has the melody of mostly quarter notes (crotchets) played on a Flute stop. The LH has mostly 2 note chords, one chord per bar, played on Strings. It is in traditional Rounded Binary Form, with the A Theme in 4/4 and the B Theme in 3/4. Each Theme is repeated. In other words, this is a very accessible piece for any organist; perfect for your organ offertory repertoire that can be pulled out at the last minute, but charming enough for concert or recital. 1 page, 1 minute This piece is also in the booklet 3 Pieces for Beginning Organist which contains a prelude, offertory, and postlude; also available on this site.

Phil Beaman #4897165. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844659). Maggiolata is the Italian name of an ancient Spring Festival celebrated on May 1st, hence the subtitle Song of May. Jeno Hubay, Head of the Violin Dept at the Budapest Academy of Music, wrote this piece to be as light and celebratory as a perfect spring day. My arrangement abridges and slightly simplifies this classical standard. I reduced it from 6 1/2 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes by focusing on the recapitulation of the main theme but also included opening and closing cadenzas. Most of the expression markings are my own additions. I have scored it as an Instrumental Solo with an Organ accompaniment but a Piano accompaniment could be easily adapted from this. This arrangement, with an octave and a half solo range, is easy enough to be accessible for most players and its beautiful melody will have you singing and longing for spring. 3 page score, 1 page part5:00 minutes with repeatrecording is Violin and piano version

I know, I should have been listening to the sermon. But I had just led the choir in one of those old modal chant tunes and it sparked an idea in me. So during the sermon I sat at the organ and sketched this piece out in the margins of the Sunday bulletin! It is a short piece for organ manuals fusing many different styles; minor melodies with an Alberti bass, then interludes with hints of West Indian rhythms. 3 pages, 2:30 minutes.
