Prelude and Fuga â 5 voci in B mol was a project I was inspired to create by my former piano teacher Joyce W. Berg who was working as a church organist, and of course, J.S. Bach. This piece was also created in the beginnings of my ongoing intense dive into Counterpoint. Written in my favorite key, I hope this provides not only a challenge for the avid organist, but also enjoyment in great triumph.*I highly recommend printing this piece Landscape on 11x17 paper*.

My Prelude on the Christmas carol tune Mendelssohn (Hark! the Herald Angels Sing) opens with a brief introduction based on the first measure of the third phrase of the tune. An original harmonization of the entire tune follows, anchored by a repetitive rhythmic pattern of alternating rests and chords. An interlude ensues, which is a rhythmically intensified reworking of the initial introduction. Then the first phrase of the tune sounds in a new key in the pedal bass, accompanied by parallel triads in the hands. Another interlude follows, also based on parallel triads, and leading to a statement in the pedals of the second phrase of the tune. Slightly modified versions of the third and fourth phrases with varied accompaniments lead to a strong cadence. The final section follows, beginning with an extended introduction that increases the rhythmic pace to the point where a constant stream of rapidly moving sixteenth notes drives forward to the final statement of the carol tune, and lends a sense of urgency as the flow continues underneath the melody. The tempo slows slightly during a brief postlude in which the state trumpet reiterates a rhythmic pattern heard earlier. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My arrangement of the hymn tune Lyons (O Worship the King) is a relatively simple setting that requires only a two-manual organ and modest playing ability. Like the original tune, this setting is cast in 3-part, or ABA, form. The first, second, and fourth phrases of the tune are notated in elongated note values to allow for a more rhythmically active accompaniment. The third phrase, notated in the original quarter-note values, is elaborated upon, thus bringing the middle B-secion into better balance with the outer two A-sections. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

The three movements of this composition are based on the Christmas carol tune Mueller, also known as Away in a Manger. While each movement can be performed separately, my intention is that all the movements be played as a unit. This composition was conceived with a 3-manual organ in mind. While the Prelude and Canon are relatively easy, the Fugue is more challenging, as it requires numerous changes of stop combinations via preset pistons. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. This piece is one among several arrangements in my Christmas Carol Series, which includes a number of settings for piano. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for still other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and some for piano.

My Prelude on the hymn tune Revive Us Again (We Praise Thee O God) was conceived for a three-manual organ and has a somewhat challenging pedal part. The harmonic idiom reflects the influence of certain 20th century techniques (such as building chords by fourths), which create a sound world that, while still tonal, embraces somewhat greater dissonance than traditional practice allowed. Modern ears though are accustomed to, and even enjoy, such sounds. The introduction and interludes are based upon a rhythmic motive taken from the hymn tune, which itself is treated canonically at one point. In another instance, even two different phrases are vertically combined. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My setting of the hymn tune Diademata ('Crown Him with Many Crowns') consists of three treatments of the tune. The first begins with a brief introduction, followed by the tune (played on a trumpet-en-chamade stop), contrasted with a rhythmically active accompaniment. After a brief modulatory interlude, the second treatment offers a stately 4-voice harmonization for manuals alone. Another brief interlude then modulates back to the original tonic. The final treatment in 12/8 meter presents the tune in long, ponderous notes in the pedal, while a 2-voice accompaniment in the hands provides a sprightly stream of eighth-notes that serve as a counterweight. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My Prelude on the Christmas carol tune Stille Nacht (Silent Night) was created with a 3-manual organ in mind, though it might be possible to play it on a 2-manual instrument, depending on the stop list. The three different settings of the tune are intended to be played as a unit, though the cadence that concludes the second setting allows the performer the option of omitting the final setting. The tune appears first in the left hand, then in the pedals, and finally in the soprano voice. The middle setting, in the dominant key, is harder to play than the outer sections, primarily because of the trio texture and quicker rhythmic movement. As one might expect, the three settings are distinguished from one another primarily by their accompanimental styles and suggested registrations. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. This setting requires only a two-manual organ and is of moderate difficulty. Structurally, the piece begins with an introduction that makes use of the dotted eighth/sixteenth rhythm that pervades the tune itself. A fresh harmonization of the first two phrases of the tune follows. They are succeeded in turn by an interlude similar to the introduction. A harmonization of the third and fourth phrases of the tune is then presented. A shorter interlude leads to a varied restatement of the last phrase, itself followed by a brief postlude, again employing the aforementioned dotted rhythm. This setting, like the first, requires only a two-manual organ, but it is a bit harder to play than the first setting. It is a trio in which the right hand plays an eighth-note accompaniment continuously from beginning to end. Phrases of the tune, played by the left hand, are stated in pairs separated by interludes, first in G major and then again in E-flat major. The pedal part provides a slow moving bass line to complete the harmony. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. My Festive Voluntary is cast in a three-part ABA form. The outer sections, in the key of C-sharp minor, convey the effect of a pompous slow-moving march. By contrast, the middle section, in the key of A-flat major, has a song-like character, with its soprano melody supported by by long sustained chords underneath. Then a 14-bar segment, acting as as bridge, assumes the rhythmic character of the first section, while modulating quickly through a succession of keys to reach the key of C-sharp minor once again. The final section recapitulates the first section, though with a few minor changes. This piece serves equally well as a recital piece or church prelude. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for my numerous hymn arrangements, some for organ and others for piano.
