This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs will be in 6 or more parts. This is the largest song so far. It is very complex and was originally composed as a Soprano solo with a 9-part 'orchestra' split into three unequally sized 'choirs'. Choir 1 consisted of two cittarones (a kind of theorbo or archlute), a clavicembalo (early harpsichord) and a spinet. Choir 2 comprised a string orchestra (viole da brazza, violins, viole da braccia, clavicembano (sic) and basso continuo). Choir 3 comprised individual instruments viola da braccio or gamba, basso da braccio or gamba, contrabass and an (unnamed) keyboard. As you might imagine, this was well nigh impossible to reduce to 5 players, so I have transcribed it for 9 brass instruments, more or less keeping to the original 'choir' groupings with a trumpet/cornet solo line. This is also one of the longest songs so far. I hope you enjoy the result. The text translates as: How softly, scented lips, I kiss you or listen to you. The poet is describing his inability to both kiss and hear his beloved's voice at the same time. The following parts are supplied: Part 1 in Bb (Solo) - Trumpet/Cornet Part 2 in Bb (Tutti 1) - Trumpet/Cornet Part 3 in C/Bb (Basso) - Euphonium/Trombone/Baritone Part 4 in Bb (Tutti 2) - Trumpet/Cornet Part 5 in Bb (Tutti 3) - Trumpet/Cornet Part 6 in F/Eb - Horn Part 7 in F/Eb - Horn Part 8 in C/Bb - Trombone/Euphonium/Baritone Part 9 in C/Bb - Trombone/Euphonium/Baritone Part 10 in C/Eb - Tuba/Eb Bass The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.) Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.

He wrote over seventy marches for Brass Band, many of which have been lost in the annals of time. This arrangement of The Wizard for Brass Sextet has been made with consideration especially for the cornet players who are anticipated to be of approximately equal ability. The melody line has been shared between them although occasionally the 1st cornet is expected to have a slightly higher range than the 2nd, as the 1st player is asked to cover some of the soprano cornet lines from the original work. This is the sixth in a series of arrangements of favourite marches by George Allan that are being released in 2021.

He is best known for his symphonic works, but also wrote many piano pieces based on dances. I have taken his piano Gavotte and freely arranged it for Instrumental Quartet. Â This brisk piece is lively with a busy texture. I have crafted 4 independent lines that are each of equal importance and the focus quickly shifts from one part to the other. The lines rhythmically weave together, answering each other. The real interest in the piece is the constantly changing and contrasting dynamics and articulation. Often every beat of the bar has a different articulation, and the individual parts rarely have the same articulation at the same time. (i.e., One part might be slurred while another part is playing staccato and yet another is accented.) This complexity of texture creates energy and excitement. A great piece to spice up any concert with a fun smile. Â This composition is a fusion of multiple eras; originally written during the Romantic period, but with many Classical elements and a Baroque form and style, to which I add some Contemporary touches. Â Notes and rhythms are Intermediate, but adding all of the markings at this pace makes it Advanced Intermediate.6 page score, 2 page parts2:10 minutes

This quartet is the second piece in the first of three sets of ‘Tafelmusik’ published in Hamburg by Telemann in 1763. The numbers of players required ranged from a single treble instrument with continuo (cello & harpsichord) to pairs of trumpets, horns and violins with string orchestra with continuo which provided the entertainment for the guests at the most important feasts.The quartet was originally written for flute, oboe, violin and continuo and has been arranged for flute, oboe, clarinet & bassoon. Some additional phrasings and dynamics have been added in parentheses ( ) or dashed lines and passages of music have been redistributed among the parts with some octave transposition to accommodate the range of the wind instruments.There are three movements: Largo - Allegro - Largo, Vivace - Moderato - Vivace & Grave - Vivace. The quartet is suitable for advanced intermediate players and above.The short Grave introduction to the final Vivace would have afforded the three treble instrument players a bar/measure each to perform a short improvised cadenza before the infectious romp of the final Vivace. (Rather like the present day introductions of the athletes before important competitions - the difference being that the 18th century musicians had already demonstrated their prowess.Telemann clearly had very talented musicians available and provided them with music which was enjoyable to play for an appreciative audience of patrons to enjoy.

He wrote over seventy marches for Brass Band, many of which have been lost in the annals of time. The melody line has been shared between them although occasionally the 1st cornet is expected to have a slightly higher range than the 2nd, as the 1st player is asked to cover some of the soprano cornet lines from the original work. A wistful quartet for four same-key saxophones based on the Stephen Foster classic, Beautiful Dreamer is a deceptively challenging little piece in which the four performers must shift their role in the ensemble measure-by-measure. The melodic line and accompaniment are bounced around between performers, each saxophonist occasionally playing only a fragment of the melody at a time. The traditional melody remains largely intact, with some ornamentation, and a more modern realization of the harmony. Given the limited pitch range of a quartet of this nature, there are some lovely close-knit harmonies reminiscent of a barbershop quartet, or a music box, which lends itself to great teachable moments for tuning and intonation. This piece can be performed by any quartet of key-homogenous saxophones, but assumes a four-alto setup. It includes an optional Bb Tenor Saxophone part to replace the lowest alto, for use in a school lesson group setting.

It is the sixth of the Sechs Lieder (Six Songs), published in 1803, which foreshadowed the Art Songs of the Romantic Era. Originally for Voice and Piano, I have arranged it for Instrumental Quartet. My arrangement stays true to Beethoven's intent to capture the passion of the original text in the music. (The texts are all sacred poems by Gellert.) Without the presence of lyrics I needed to create musical interest and interpretation, so I realized inner voices and polyphony out of his original homophonic accompaniment. I added new shape to individual lines, altered phrasing, elaborated rhythms, and in true Beethoven style added more dynamic markings. The mood and meaning are now stunningly portrayed through music alone. Busslied is in three sections; Penance, the Impassioned Plea, and Acceptance and Absolution. Each section has a different key, a different tempo, and a different style. The final section has some virtuosic extended runs for some instruments. Â
