I borrowed the Slave To The Rhythm LP from the library, put it on the turntable, and thought this is different. This track was the last track on the A-side. As I further listened to the LP I realized that the album used the same song in different genres, format, and keys. You wouldn't know it unless you really listened to the LP. This arrangement, however, is in the original key from her Island Life LP. This song has funk all over it. Grace is a strange character but has a great voice. What made me pick this song is I was searching through youtube to find a song to arrange and I found Grace doing this song live. Again, Grace surprised me. You think female stars today has energy. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.584663). This composition begins with a 12/8 rock tempo. Although it is written in C, the composition is begins in D Minor. The Bassoon keeps the 12/8 going while the Clarinet, Oboe, and Flute become punctuations. The punctuation continues while the Flute plays the melody. At measure 15 the song moves into a 6/8 feel. At measure 34 the song returns to the original 12/8 feel. The composition then splits to where the Clarinet takes on harmony in the 12/8 feel while the Oboe and Flute take on a 6/8 countermelody. A short bridge is created by stacking the Flute and Oboe on top of the Clarinet/Bassoon 12/8 feel. Then it splits again to where Oboe stays with the Clarinet/Bassoon pattern and the Flute goes off on it's own. During this time the Flute folds in the 6/8 melody, creating a pleasant conflict. Aria is scored for Woodwind Quartet (Flute, Oboe Clarinet in B flat and Bassoon) It is a very restful melodic piece based on a single motif heard in bar 1. Written in the key of C major the piece is very hymn -like in design- with long notes and chords but has some unusual harmonies. The searing theme is stated then repeated with variation in texture. The theme is then developed using the rhythmic motif in the beginning climaxing in D major briefly before calmly returning to C major to repeat again. On this repeat more variation and articulation takes place before a restful conclusion. The range of all instruments is around two octaves with no complicated rhythms and I've tried to keep all parts interesting. and evenly balanced in terms of quantity. The full score is 8 pages and parts are 3 pages each- it is roughly 5 mins 40 in length. I have set it to intermediate level but an early intermediate should be ok with some of the parts. The whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. Price is for the full score and all parts. This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs will be in 6 or more parts.Tornate, O cari baci is another duet for two tenors, The title translates as Return, O Beloved ? . In it, the poet is pleading with his lover to return and kiss him back to life - with the usual proviso that 'life' and 'death' are euphemisms.I decided to use two euphonious/baritones for the soloists, with the accompaniment managed by 2 cornets/trumpets, a horn and a tuba.The accompaniment is, in places, quite complex. There are many places where there is imitation, not just between the soloists, but also between them and the accompaniment.The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.)Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.

The prelude of this composition is a slow 4/4 pop feel before it moves into the main body of the song, a 12/8 blues motif. The quad chord bridge moves into a different melody with the 12/8 signature. The second bridge is two measures reminiscent of the opening slow section before it goes into a musical accented war between the instruments. The song, once again, moves into the remembrance of the slow 4 section remaining in the 12/8 time. A three measure battle returns back to the original 12/8 section.
