It is flowing and meditative, with colorful LV patterns and melody both in the bass and treble.The arrangement is for full bell choir using 3-6 octaves of handbells. Rated at a Level 2 when played with 11-12 ringers because of its slow tempo and easy rhythms, “A Stroll on ‘Duke Street’†can be interpreted very musically, with crescendos and spiritually high moments. Its three verses are each treated differently, with the last verse raises the key signature a half step and then yet another half step as it grows with intensity. Although based on a hymn tune, the title allows this arrangement to be used for any audience.For sacred environments, the arranger suggests that the text be studied for inspiration. There are several words set to the tune “Duke Street,†although the arranger favors the text that begins, “I know that my redeemer lives.†When performing the piece, use the first verse as a humble (and somewhat hesitant) prayer, the second verse more confident (by relying for God's promises), and the third verse as if obtaining divine reassurance. This would place the prayer-giver in a place of wonder – a spiritual mountain-top experience. Also, see the next paragraph's description, which could also be used for a spiritual experience with God the Creator.For secular environments, use the visual imagery of an early morning walk. You start out just before sunrise, when nature is quiet and there is still dew on the grass. As you continue your upward path, the sky begins to change colors and the birds to sing. Aiming for the viewpoint at the hilltop, tree shadows begin to form and the brush mirrors the orange and grey from the new sunrise about to appear. When the sun does rise, it seems to wash all the darkness away in a single instant, making this new day clean and perfect.Performance time:• 3 minutesPerformance notes are included.

Total Praise Total Praise is arranged for a 3 octave Handbell Choir, Level 3 (Key, Accidentals, 16th notes, Syncopation). This is a gospel song sung at many church and secular events for over 20 years. This inspirational song can be performed in a wide range of venues in or outside places of worship. A traditional encore begins at measure 14, beat 3. It goes to the 2nd Ending and continues to the end of the piece; no repeats. The author, Richard Smallwood, is quoted to say, It’s a song that gives praise to God, transcending church walls and going places I never thought it would go, circa 2015. The arranger is Brian Leverett. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from Wayne State University and has now retired from teaching Elementary and Middle School Band in the Detroit Public Schools. He also has been an avid member of handbell choirs for twenty years.

The memorable melody of Springs of Joy consists of 8th note arpeggios, supported by waltz bass and intruiging harmonic shifts. The B section offers a new key, an equally-compelling melody in the bass, and thumb-damped chords in the treble. Reminiscent of a Chopin waltz, the open scoring of Springs of Joy will challenge your ringers to play the melody smoothly, and it is perfect as an uplifting moment in worship or a sprightly addition to concert or festival repertoire. A smaller ensemble (8 ringers on 3 oct. or 9 ringers on 5 oct.) might welcome the challenge of ringing paired 8th notes (a performance concept taught by both Kathleen Wissinger and Carlos J. Avila Baez at conferences); instructions for this method are included in the score. This light-hearted, original piece is dedicated to Carlos for his inspiration.
