Gary Ray Adkison #30517. Published by Gary Ray Adkison (A0.953737). Song of Christmas is an arrangement for 3-4-5 octave handbell choir. It is a 56 measure Christmas carol medley. It starts with Once in Royal David's City, in the key of F. The first verse uses handchimes, although handbells can be substituted for the chimes, if desired. The second verse is louder, switches to handbells, uses fuller chords and is in the key of Bb. The last two musical phrases of this carol are repeated, grandioso. There is then a softer handchime repeat of the last phrase. Without pause, it begins a lively version of Sing We Now of Christmas in Eb. The melody alternates between handchimes and handbells. When the chimes are playing, the bells only play fills, etc. There is a brief (2 measure) passage with handbells in the key of D, then it switches back to Eb for the big ending, using only bells. The ending is half-timed, with a descending chordal descant to the martellato stinger. (Throughout the entire arrangement, handbells can substitute for handchimes.) This arrangement is probably about a level 2 degree of difficulty.

It is flowing and meditative, with colorful LV patterns and melody both in the bass and treble.The arrangement is for full bell choir using 3-6 octaves of handbells. Rated at a Level 2 when played with 11-12 ringers because of its slow tempo and easy rhythms, “A Stroll on ‘Duke Street’†can be interpreted very musically, with crescendos and spiritually high moments. Its three verses are each treated differently, with the last verse raises the key signature a half step and then yet another half step as it grows with intensity. Although based on a hymn tune, the title allows this arrangement to be used for any audience.For sacred environments, the arranger suggests that the text be studied for inspiration. In the style of a French suite, this piece may be condensed or expanded to fit nearly any performance situation. Played quickly and without repeats, it builds to a satisfying climax. Taken at a more moderate tempo and with all repeats (including an unwritten but implied optional DC from the end of measure 78), “Endless Fanfare†may continue forever.The arrangement is for full choir using 3, 4, 5, or 6 octaves of handbells, and the piece is Level 3 when played with a full complement of ringers.All stopped sounds are left to the director's discretion, depending on the performance context and personal taste. The bass must provide a solid foundation, but never be overbearing. Plucked sounds would create a sharp accent and quick decay; malletted sounds should be much softer; martellati would be quite harsh.Exceptional skill and endurance is required of the F5+G5 and A5+B5 ringers, who must maintain a contant but subtle off-beat pulse throughout.The tempo must remain steady and without rubato, until the final two measures.Performance time:  4 minutes.
