I Sing the Mighty Power of God is a 51 measure arrangement for 4-5 octave handbell choir that has three contrasting verses based on the original Christian hymn. The first verse is fairly standard, except that some chord structures are used throughout the arrangement that are not the standard chords used in the original hymn. After the first verse (at the normal tempo) the tempo slows considerably, for a majestic effect, and the very lowest 4 octave bells are used for the melody line. At the same time, the chord structure here is provided by treble clef bells, from the bottom of the treble clef, through the highest note of the 5 octave range. This approach alternates with passages that are up to 5-octave unison passages. The early parts of the third verse are heavy on descant lines---sometimes descant chords instead of single-note descants, with a couple of bass runs in this verse, as well. There is a tag at the end---the last musical phrase is repeated with fuller chords at triple forte. There is a very non-standard chord, instead of the normal five-seven chord, right before the last chord. There is a brief shake on the first half of the last melody chord. This is probably about a level 2 degree of difficulty.

Published by Gary Ray Adkison (A0.953727). Holy God Medley is a medley of the Christian hymns: He Leadeth Me, O Blessed Thought and Holy, Holy, Holy arranged for 4-5 octave handbell choirs. It starts with a two measure introduction, followed by He Leadeth Me, O Blessed Thought. This is fairly up-tempo, with a surprise modulation going into the chorus. In the chorus, there are bass runs, a brief descant line, and doubling of the melody into the high bells. There are then two verses of Holy, Holy, Holy. The first verse is slow and is in ¾ time, instead of the normal common meter. It is also soft and *very* plain, as a setup for the last verse, which is faster, and grows in volume to the end, with much fuller chords, and uses the normal common meter that the original hymn uses. There is another surprise modulation halfway through this verse. Very full chords are used, with a brief bass clef downward arpeggio in the next to last measure, to emphasize the ending. The first verse of Holy, Holy, Holy can be performed with handchimes, if desired, although the arrangement is not scored as such. The audio demonstration clip provided is in a piano voice (patch) but suffices to demonstrate how this arrangement is generally meant to sound. I believe that this is probably a 2+ (2 plus) arrangement in degree of difficulty.

It is flowing and meditative, with colorful LV patterns and melody both in the bass and treble.The arrangement is for full bell choir using 3-6 octaves of handbells. Rated at a Level 2 when played with 11-12 ringers because of its slow tempo and easy rhythms, “A Stroll on ‘Duke Street’†can be interpreted very musically, with crescendos and spiritually high moments. Its three verses are each treated differently, with the last verse raises the key signature a half step and then yet another half step as it grows with intensity. Although based on a hymn tune, the title allows this arrangement to be used for any audience.For sacred environments, the arranger suggests that the text be studied for inspiration. There are several words set to the tune “Duke Street,†although the arranger favors the text that begins, “I know that my redeemer lives.†When performing the piece, use the first verse as a humble (and somewhat hesitant) prayer, the second verse more confident (by relying for God's promises), and the third verse as if obtaining divine reassurance. This would place the prayer-giver in a place of wonder – a spiritual mountain-top experience. You start out just before sunrise, when nature is quiet and there is still dew on the grass. As you continue your upward path, the sky begins to change colors and the birds to sing. Aiming for the viewpoint at the hilltop, tree shadows begin to form and the brush mirrors the orange and grey from the new sunrise about to appear. Majestic God is a 4-5 octave, 110 measure medley of the Christian hymns: Come, Thou Almighty King, Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, Praise Him, Praise Him, All Ye Little Children, O Worship the King, and God of our Fathers. Within this arrangement are descant lines, doubling of the melody line, at times, and some bass runs, and triplets. It probably is a level 3 difficulty arrangement---maybe a 3+ (3 plus). There is a juxtaposition of styles, dynamic levels and tempos within this arrangement, for the sake of variety. The first verse of God of our Fathers is done rather straight-forwardly as a setup for the next verse, where the fanfare portions are significantly different from the original. There is also a fanfare tag at the end. The audio demonstration clip is in a piano voice (patch) but suffices to demonstrate how the arrangement is generally meant to sound.

It starts with Once in Royal David's City, in the key of F. The first verse uses handchimes, although handbells can be substituted for the chimes, if desired. The second verse is louder, switches to handbells, uses fuller chords and is in the key of Bb. The last two musical phrases of this carol are repeated, grandioso. There is then a softer handchime repeat of the last phrase. Without pause, it begins a lively version of Sing We Now of Christmas in Eb. The melody alternates between handchimes and handbells. When the chimes are playing, the bells only play fills, etc. There is a brief (2 measure) passage with handbells in the key of D, then it switches back to Eb for the big ending, using only bells. The ending is half-timed, with a descending chordal descant to the martellato stinger. (Throughout the entire arrangement, handbells can substitute for handchimes.) This arrangement is probably about a level 2 degree of difficulty.

It also utilizes OPTIONAL 2 octaves of handchimes . It is a medley of the Christmas carols: Joy to the World, Silent Night and O Come, All Ye Faithful. It starts out, joyfully, at a strong dynamic level, with Joy to the World. Then, it becomes soft for Silent Night, going into a CHORUS of O Come, All Ye Faithful that grows in volume to double forte, at which time the verse portion of O come, All Ye Faithful starts. At the next chorus, the dynamic progression is repeated, until the final chorus becomes triple forte at the very end. The handchimes are used simultaneously with handbells during Silent Night, but handbells can be substituted for the handchimes. That section is very slow and laid back, with its strong point being more exotic chords than the traditional carol. The first and last sections of the arrangement are faster (and louder), both with surprise key changes. The last section also features very full chords, in places, starting with the verse of O Come, All Ye Faithful. I would think that this is probably a level 2+ arrangement in difficulty---mostly because of the 16th notes in Joy to the World. The audio clip provided is in a piano voice (patch) but suffices to demonstrate how the arrangement is generally meant to sound.

It is a medley of Christian hymns that deal with some of the attributes of God, as they relate to His followers. Specifically, it includes Abide with Me, God Will Take Care of You, Day by Day and Just When I Need Him Most. It is probably a level 3+ arrangement. The God Will Take Care of You section starts with a duet in the handchimes, with the melody line switching from treble clef to bass clef, in the verse. Of course, handbells can be used instead of handchimes, if desired. In the chorus, martellato is used in the bass clef, while there is a descant going on in the high treble clef, with the melody sandwiched in between. In the last section (Just When I Need Him Most) interesting chords, bass runs and melody line doubling, with chords filled in between the doubled melody notes, build to an ending culminating in a repeat of the last musical phrase, at a slower, more majestic tempo. The first 3 selections are more laid-back; the last is presented in a more energetic fashion.

This delightful arrangement of the first movement of The Spring is perfect for any energetic moment, regardless of season.  Its charm comes from its quick tempo and dynamic contrasts, complete with the sounds of the spring season (perhaps add a bird whistle, rainstick, props, poem, or a nature slide show). The arrangement is for 4, 5, or 6 ringers using two or three octaves of handbells (or handchimes).  Complete assignments and performance notes are enclosed, and the piece is Level 3 when played with six ringers.  This piece may also be performed by four- or six-in-hand ensembles without tables.The piece is in rondeau form, which means that it has a recurring theme (similar to a refrain) and verses that extremely differ from one another.  Rondeau form is usually explained by letters, where A equals the recurring theme, and each other letter like B or C indicate completely differing verses.  The form then looks like this: ABACADAE etcetera.
