This version is in E minor to make it easier to play, and has the exact piano accompaniment as well as full melody and lyrics for a soloist or choir. It works well as a solo or congregational song for any autumn or funeral service, featuring the meaningful lyrics of Henry Francis Lyte reminding us of the swiftness of this life, and the hope we have for the life beyond. Also included at the end of the file is a separate printout of both the piano and vocal parts separately for ease of practice and rehearsal.The original hymn was very beautiful but I thought a minor setting would be more fitting for the solemn lyrics, so I wrote an entirely new melody and harmonic arrangement, which can be found on all streaming platforms as well as Youtube, where lyric videos of this and other songs are readily available for church or personal use. Not just a hymn for September and October, I've found myself going back to this song often, as it captures the rich beauty and yet sadness of the autumn season, and still somehow brings comfort amidst the fast-changing seasons of the earth and of our lives. The song was introduced in the Broadway musical comedy Whoopee! which opened in December 1928. Ruth Etting's performance of the song was so popular that she was also given the song to sing in the play Simple Simon, which opened in February 1930. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. Score. 2 pages. DAVID LEE GINGRAS #1040380. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.1461636). This tune, The Girl I Left Behind Me', was written in 1932 by Edgar Leslie. Mr. Leslie was born in Stamford, Connecticut in 1885 and published his first song in 1909, starting a long prolific career as a composer and lyricist. He died in 1976. He was a founding member of ASCAP in 1914. Leslie served as its director from 1931 to 1941 and from 1947 to 1953. His most enduring success of the era was probably 1935's Moon Over Miami and For Me And My Gal. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. I've Gotta Be Me is a popular song that appeared in the Broadway musical Golden Rainbow, which starred Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé. It opened in New York City at the Shubert Theatre on February 4, 1968, and closed just under a year later, on January 11, 1969. The music and lyrics for the musical were composed and written by Walter Marks in 1967. Sammy Davis Jr. recorded the song in 1968 while the musical was still running on Broadway, altering the title slightly to I've Gotta Be Me, and released it as a single late in the year. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements and we incorporated a smooth left-hand bass line to keep the rhythm going - we hope you like what we've done with the song!

This arrangement features a root-based chord-blocking which we kind of morphed into a simple stride that's not too hard to play (like all of our arrangements).
