The title Beryllisations is derived from the word Beryl. Beryl is a type of mineral. It is a crystal that appears in nature in different colors, the best known being green and blue. The green Beryl is Emerald and the blue is Aquamarine. The composer chose this title as a tribute to his homeland (Medina, in Minas Gerais) where the Aquamarine gemstone is widely found. On the other hand, there is also a poetic intention to seek to musically transcribe, through sounds, rhythms and timbres, the different colors and shapes in which Beryl is found in nature.

The piece uses two contrasting sections: one related to violence and psychological instability in the big cities, and other; related to the nostalgic moods found in Rio de Janeiro in the past. It was composed specially for a friend, saxophonist and Doctor Mecenas MAGNO. Monologue for a friend is a rhapsodic and brilliant piece of great effect, also using rhythms and reminiscences of the music called Choros and Samba so popular in the Rio de Janeiro city at the 40’ths and 50'ths. It uses also free structures and little allusions to minimalism of Riley and Reich. The work is divided in six sections: Tormentà to, Scherzando, Lento, Lentissimo, reexposition (Tormentà to) and Coda. Born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, he has a Ph.D. in Music Composition from the Federal University of Bahia. He began composing at the age of thirteen and became a professor at the age of nineteen. He has studied in courses and seminars about music and film in several official institutions with Ennio Morricone, Ettore Scolla, Giussepe Tornatore, E. Polizzi, Radamés Gnatalli, Max Rostal, Oilliam Lanna, S. Vianna (Accademia Chigiana di Siena, Reale Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, Arts Academy of Rome, Royal University College of Music Stockholm, UFMG, UFBA), among others. He currently works as a composer-conductor and cultural producer, as well as a professor at the Clóvis Salgado Foundation, Palácio das Artes, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in addition to offering lectures and workshops in various institutions both in Brazil and abroad. His first teacher wa his father, Sebastião Vianna (assistant and reviser for the Brazilian composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos), and most recently furthered his studies in other institutions in Brazil, Italy, and Sweden. He has also published over forty articles both in Brazil and Europe. Viana has received 25 awards in Argentina, Brazil, Europe and the USA, including the Prix de Composition at the First Composition Competition Festin Choral 2013 in the city of Billère (France), first prize at the Susanville Symphony Composition Competition 2012 (USA), first prize in the international composition contest of Lys Music Orchestra 2001 in Belgium, first prize and the audience prize in the Lambersart 2006 International Contest of Composition in France. To date, he has composed 315 musical pieces for voices, chamber, symphonic as well as electronic instruments. Jörg Widmann, an internationally sought-after soloist and professor of clarinet at the Freiburg Musikhochschule, displays the exquisite refinement of contemporary clarinet sound in 'Fünf Bruchstücke' (already published) for clarinet and piano (KLB 54) and in the present 'Fantasie' for solo clarinet. While noise, as a means of expression, is given much attention in 'Fünf Bruchstücke', 'Fantasie' is largely based on the usual Romantic melodious sound, though this time with ironic side trips into dance, klezmer and jazz music, the clarinet's equivalent of light music. 'Fantasie' for solo clarinet is my first real piece for my own instrument, the clarinet. With its eccentric virtuosity and its cheerful, ironic fundamental character, it reflects the experience with Stravinsky's 3 Pieces for solo clarinet of 1919 and the tonal innovations which did not appear in music before Carl Maria von Weber's notation for the clarinet, and takes them further in a new way. It is a little imaginary scene uniting the dialogues of different people in close proximity in the spirit of the commedia dell'arte. - Jörg Widmann ...on the interpretation: It would be important to take the title completely literally – which is why the performer should of course play the piece with imagination. The most important information on the structure: the complete absence of bar lines – whenever the piece is played to me by students or other persons, I am always pleased about the player's own ideas and about the fact that the musical text is taken literally and seriously, with all its dynamic and articulation marks, and yet filled with life and imagination. What I always notice, however, is that the rhythmic fast pulse part is often played like an étude, rather than with imagination. What is most important to me, personally, is to take pleasure in making tonal distinctions, even despite the strict timing. Its length is 3' 06. George Harrison sings, plays guitar, guitar, moog synthesizer, and claps his hands. Paul McCartney sings the chorus, plays the bass, and claps his hands. Ringo Starr plays drums and claps his hands. Because he is recovering from a car accident, John Lennon did not participate in this song. There was also the participation of orchestral instruments: four violas, four cellos, one bass, two picolos, two flutes, two alto flutes and two clarinets. According to George, it was composed one sunny morning in Eric Clapton's mansion. Like in If I Needed Someone, another composition by him, a guitar solo sounds throughout the song.
