This is a short, two-page arrangement of Meghan Trainor's cheerful and catchy defense of diversity in body-types. It was written to be workshopped, and can be learned and performed in an afternoon, and features vocal ranges accessible to relatively inexperienced singers. It starts off with the tune in unison, then split between upper and lower voices, before blossoming out into harmony, and passing the melody to the lead for the verse.
It is written in A major, as that is the key of the original, but leaves headroom to pitch it up should the voices need it.
N.B. This arrangement is notated in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs.

(Tenor, lead, baritone, bass are roughly equivalent to SSAA, although lead and baritone have similar - in this case, identical! - ranges, but perform different functions). A Little Respect was written and recorded by English synth-pop duo Erasure, and is known as one of their signature songs. It reached #4 on the UK singles chart, #14 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and #2 on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. This arrangement uses words from the song in place of neutral vowels to create an early ostinato (without boring the harmony parts!) before expanding into homorhythm in verse 2. The melody is mainly in the lead part, with the final motif from the chorus passed to the tenors. In the final verse, a key change moves the melody to the basses and baritones, with the leads taking the final phrase. This arrangement was written for a barbershop chorus, and as such the lowest voice part has a lower range than is custom for choral SSAA writing. However, the range of the entire arrangement is quite narrow, and so it could be sung in a higher tessitura without undo strain on the upper voices. Please note: in keeping with normal barbershop practice the men's barbershop voicing names are used (tenor, lead, baritone and bass) and an octave-shifted bass clef is used for the baritone and bass parts. Vocal ranges are: Tenor: D4 - F5 (D above middle C to F above high C) Lead: G3 - C5 (G below middle C to high C) Baritone: G3 - C5 (G below middle C to high C) Bass: D3 - F4 (D below middle C to F above middle C).

This setting of the traditional Scottish song of farewell is designed as an 8-part arrangement that male and female quartets or choruses can sing together to finish a joint performance, as well as two separate 4-part arrangements for the respective groups to use when they're not sharing the stage. It was conceived to address the 'cost-per-wear' problem of special occasion pieces that only get performed occasionally but still need rehearsing to the same standard as the rest of the set.This is the setting for women's voices, in which the melody is taken for the most part by female leads, then handed off to the basses for the 3rd phrase of each verse. The first verse is homophonic, while the second explores a variety of melody+accompaniment textures before restoring the harmonic texture to introduce a tag that blossoms out from unison.The versions for men's voicing and combined voicings are also available for purchase.N.B. The lyrics are in a confessional style, while there's a theme of self-determination in the metaphorical ladder of the refrain... The song features on Paula Cole's debut album Harbinger (1994) and runs the gamut of emotions from the urgent, unaccompanied opening strains and melancholy of the verses – to the striving, optimistic, melodic refrain and the joyous climax with divided voices. The original main vocal melody is given to the first sopranos, with the rest of the choir offering a gentle, rhythmicised ah accompaniment in the verses. The crunchy chords and occasional dissonances of the original are dramatised and intensified by the live choral setting. The piano part often operates independently, providing harmonic and rhythmic support and a robust bass in louder passages. No sheet music was originally issued with the song – perhaps because of the richly detailed texture of the women's backing voices – and this arrangement by David M. Hoyle represents the first commercially-available transcription/arrangement.
