David McKeown #6019027. Published by David McKeown (A0.589209). Chosn Kale Mazel Tov, (Good Luck to the Bride and Groom), is a Jewish wedding tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Viola.Often shortened to Mazel Tov, it is thought that the song was written by Sigmund Zelig Mogulesko. Born in Romania, he was a larger than life character who dominated Yiddish theatre on both sides of the Atlantic in the late nineteenth century. Mogulesko was a childhood prodigy, equally adept as a composer, playwright, singer, comedian, actor and impresario. Mazel Tov was written for a wedding scene in one of his productions but has since become one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards.Mazel Tov is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Mazel Tov is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Mazel Tov is perfect for wedding and concert performances, both formal and informal. Both composers filled their works with deep emotion, transcending the strict musical rules of the period. Liebe is a Canon, with the first part following the second throughout, one bar behind, like lovers in intimate conversation.Liebe is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. The melody should always carry momentum and adding plenty of expression will help convey the style. Liebe has a performance time of around three minutes.
