The original version was written in the mid-1700s in Naples by the Catholic Bishop of Sant'Agata dei Goti, Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori. At that time it was called Quanno nascette Ninno and was written in the Neapolitan dialect in the style of a pastorale.The song was later re-written in Italian by Pope Pius IX and thereafter it became famous as a Christmas carol all over the world.Originally containing seven verses, today’s performances of the carol in Italy generally include only the first two verses. Notable recordings and performances of the carol include those by Sergio Franchi, Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti.This arrangement features both Italian and English lyrics, with the English version being a very close adaptation of the original Italian. The carol may therefore be sung in either Italian or English, or a combination of both.Available in 2 Part and SSA, both with piano and optional descant/flute.Also available separately is an instrumental accompaniment for the SSA version, scored for String quintet and glockenspiel, with conductor's score. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774734). White Winter Hymnal was first released by the American indie folk band Fleet Foxes in 2008 as the first single from their debut self-titled album. The song was written by group member Robin Pecknold and has been covered by several groups and solo singers including Kim Wilde in 2013 and Pentatonix in 2014.The meaning behind White Winter Hymnal is somewhat open to conjecture. Pecknold has explained that he intended this gently uplifting song to be like Whistle While You Work from Snow White – something to hum along to as you do the dishes. Pecknold added that the words actually tell a more painful story about loss of the innocence of youth, being about my experience when I was a kid, you know, like I had my really tight group of friends. But as we grew up from grade school to junior high to high school, everybody just kind of split off, and everybody kind of changed. I went from like this tight-knit group to, seemingly for no reason, everybody was kind of going their own way. That song is just about that feeling.This very accessible arrangement, featuring piano and guitar accompaniment with tambourine percussion, is ideally suited to winter and general programming, and makes an ideal concert opener.

I Still Call Australia Home was written, first performed and recorded by Peter Allen in 1980. In that year the song peaked on the Australian Singles Chart at number 72. But whilst its initial impact was somewhat less than stellar, it has gone on to become one of those songs that is part of the national psyche and is well-known by most Australians.In I still Call Australia Home Peter Allen wrote of his longing, no matter where in the World he might travel, to always return home to Australia, where he could be near his family and friends once again. The song is now regarded as a heart-warming expression of Australian patriotism and nostalgia for home.Its adoption by Qantas in the mid 1990s as the centrepiece of a long-running advertising campaign exposed a new generation of Australians to the song and greatly boosted its popularity. The Qantas campaign became one of the top Australian television campaigns of all time. It has linked together Australians living at home with those travelling or living overseas. Beginning with a number of well-known Australian musicians, the campaign went on to become associated with the Australian Girls Choir, the National Boys Choir and the Gondwana National Indigenous Children’s Choir.The song has featured in television programs, benefit concerts, sporting event ceremonies, and was included in the musical, The Boy From Oz, which starred Todd McKenney as Peter Allen in the Australian production and Hugh Jackman in the title role when the musical transferred to Broadway.This arrangement, with piano accompaniment, is available in SATB, SSA, SAB and 2-Part voicings.
