Canada, Let the Bells Ring is a song written to celebrate Canada's 150th. The lyrics reflect not only Canada's natural beauty, but its history and character. Recognizing that Canada has not always been at its best, the song also recognizes the great strengths Canada shows as a modern nation and its continued journey towards an equal, peaceful, and just society. Timothy Piper is a composer living in Hull, Quebec where he directs a series of youth choirs, Chorale Lyrica. He is also the Musical Director at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Ottawa, Ontario. His bio can be found at www.choralelyrica.com. Both the audio version and the YouTube video of this song were recorded virtually during the 2020 Covid19 pandemic. This song is the perfect closing piece for any concert focusing on hope, resilience, and of course, Canada (Canada Day, Remembrance Day, etc).

There should be a nice ebb and flow of dynamics but always within the context of soft. I had the sound of Libera in mind when I composed this piece. It should be sung with a certain amount of nostalgia. There are places where liberty with the tempo can be taken as in measures 27- the first half of measure 32. The words, “found†and “loved†in this section should be nudged and unhurried.The various statements of “it is always brimming May†can have different emotional approaches. However, the last statement of that phrase, is a big smile at remembering the fleeting affair.— Charles.

Published by Barber Music Company (A0.915660). I Will Give Thanks unto Thee is a happy little piece for an inexperienced SAB adult church choir. I composed it for our Thanksgiving Sunday service when our adult choir was just getting established. It is easy to learn and to sing as well as to play for the accompanist. The soprano range is C4 to E5; alto is A3 to E5; bass is C3 to E4. The duration is about 2:04. Although I wrote this piece specifically for Thanksgiving, because we are always to be giving thanks to Him, this composition is really suitable to almost any Christian worship service. Done as an SAB arrangement, the B is more Baritone than Bass, so bare that in mind when thinking of using this for your choir. All parts start off in unison and then splits into harmony from 2nd verse onwards, where Soprano and Alto share the main melody and are always complimented by the surrounding harmonies. Purely written as a vocals with chord symbols for comping with instrument of choice (e.g. piano or guitar), this is a flexible arrangement that can be a great contemporary addition to choir repertoire lists.
