Published by Johnson Gao (A0.1007008). <兵車行> (Chariot Marching) is the poet written by Du Fu in the Tang Dynasty (AD 712-770). He wrote the <Chariot Marching>, dated back about 1300 years before. There are two difficulties in composing that song: 1. It must show a magnificent marching spirit, at the sametime it must also express grief and resentment. 2. It is not easy to arange the long and short sentences in a reasonable chorus for the repeated melody. On November 11, 2018, it coincided with the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Leaders of various countries gathered in Paris, France to hold a celebration. I guess, none words of any speakers of that meeting will have more vitality than Du Fu’s <Chariot Marching> to the future history, simply because Life is short. Art is long.

Published by Celine Tsoi (A0.1011599). Tu te Rappelles? , meaning ‘do you remember?’, depicts the love of a girl to her partner. She reminiscences about her past memories with him and in the climax, she proclaims her love for him as she is soon to leave his side. This combination, an SSA choir with violin and piano, is chosen for it captures the character of a female speaker, and the piano adds depth to the piece but still keeps the gentleness of the message. The bright timbre of the violin as well as the use of D major is to convey positivity: this is not a sad piece. This speaker looks forward to the future and treasures their past moments together. This piece is in verse-chorus form. The chorus, starting from ‘Je t’aimerai’, and followed by ‘Jusqu’a...’ repeats three times before arriving at the final climax in A major. In between the second chorus and the third chorus, a transitional section, in F# minor, is added. This section, as it is about her difficult decision to leave, is stronger and faster than other sections. The original lyrics are inspired by a famous TV show, Game of Thrones , in which a character says the lyrics in the chorus. Different techniques are used to bring out the message in the lyrics, such as word-painting, use of harmony and instruments, and key changes. Parting is inevitable in any relationship. I hope this piece can describe some emotions and thoughts in the face of parting and can echo among not only lovers but families and friends as well.

A beautiful contemporary Christmas Mass for SSA plus Solo Soprano and Piano. Written in British Contemporary style mixing the traditional Christmas Liturgy with English text this Mass starts with a low key Kyrie, before moving through an uplifting Gloria, to a slower Credo, a faster paced Holy, Holy and finally easing into a beautiful warm slow Sanctus to round the piece off. This will challenge your choir and provide them with a beautiful alternative to traditional masses. About 8 mins in length it fits comfortably with your Christmas repertoire. It will provide a challenge but is possible with a good community choir which was who it was performed with originally. Although utilising Christian Liturgy it is suitable for any Christmas concert and will be a worthy addition for any choir or choral group.

An original setting, for SSABar choir and piano by Philip Le Bas, of Quiet Peace by Amy Carmichael (1867-1951), who worked as a Christian missionary among the poorest of the poor in India in the first half of the twentieth century. The poem is in the form of a prayer, and the music here has been been kept deliberately simple to perform, so that it canbe sung by a typical church choir. The piano here provides a constantly flowing ritornello throughout the verses, while the voices weave around it in a gentle wave of prayerful reflection. The poet feels an interior quiet peace while all around her there are storms and disquiet, because she knows that her Lord hears her voice. The setting is deliberately simple and undemanding, and it should be sung quietly, meditatively and without rushing. O Lord my heart is all a prayer, But it is silent unto thee; I am too tired to look for words, I rest upon thy sympathy To understand when I am dumb; And well I know thou hearest me. Parts labelled Upper, Middle and Lower relate best to SAT, but also accessible to SAA. Note range for each part shown by the clef at the start of the score. Chords provided for simple accompaniment on piano/guitar/ukulele but is also fun with A Cappella with accompanying finger clicks. Originally arranged for a one-off 'come and sing' session for an unknown mix of voices, therefore designed to be simple and accessible for a mix of male and female voices. Lower male (Bass) voices can adapt any part at a lower octave. In Grease the movie this song is featured played by Sha Na Na as the school dance. However this version is based on the Grease The Stage Musical version where it's a song sung by Doody - listen here. I've not found an exact backing track for this version so simple chords have been included on the score (a repeating pattern of C / Am / F / G7 until the last 6 bars when switches to F / Fm / C). If want to use a backing track the film version by Sha Na Na is available on Karaoke Version but would need to adjust the ending slightly moving from end of bar 61 to bar 66 and then do bar 67, bar 69 and bar 71 and 72 to end. An optional middle section is included which keeps the Lower part riff from bar 38 - 42 and layers a four bar section from 'We Go Together' for interest!
