Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1251832 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Multicultural,Wedding,World. Octavo. 9 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #846048. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1251832). This lovely folksong is thought to have come from Scotland, though similar versions have been recorded in other parts of Britain. The song is also known as “O Waly, Waly†which means something like “woe is meâ€. For such an old song, it is not surprising that there are many variations of the lyrics. An early version of the modern lyrics was consolidated by the British folksong collector Cecil Sharp in 1906 using multiple older sources in southern England. There are many sets of lyrics with different story-lines. This was because performers would often create new lyrics for the song. This melody has attracted a family of lyrics many of which bear little relationship to each other. The words used in this choral arrangement reflect the popular and optimistic lyrics used during the twentieth century. The song was made popular by many folk singers notably Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. It has become one of the most popular folk songs today, largely because of its beautiful tune. But as with the lyrics, there are many variations on the melody with the result that no single variation can be considered the “correct†one. This SSA arrangement by Colin Kirkpatrick is ideal for boy choir, amateur choir, school or college choir. Each section of the choir as the melody line at some point and there are attractive and evocative counter-melodies. In the Soprano 1 part (which has one brief divisi section), the highest note is G5 (the G just above the staff) and the highest note in the Soprano 2 part is E5 (near the top of the treble staff). The Alto part has a range of G below Middle C (G4) up to B flat in the middle of the treble staff. The piano part is an integral part of the arrangement and therefore essential. The music begins in E flat and modulates to C major. Running at just over three minutes, the work is sure to be popular with choir and audiences alike. Note that the audio sample cannot yet render the words.

Choral Choir,Choral (SAT) - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1291004 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Advent,Christian,Christmas. 13 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #881693. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1291004). This is a tuneful and attractive setting of words by Danny Alorean, looking at the town of Bethlehem through the eyes of travelers who are going to see the child Jesus. The main melody is set is 8/8 time which naturally divides into groups of 3+2+3. The middle section is at first contrapuntal then more lyrical and in 4/4. It is more suitable for experienced singers. The work is scored for SAT choir with keyboard accompaniment which makes it ideal for high school and college choirs with no bass section. There are no divisi sections, but several opportunities for optional solos and the piano part is of medium difficulty but could be managed by any competent pianist. This piece would be ideal for a Christmas concert or part of a Christmas service. The vocal ranges are as follows: Soprano C4-G5; Alto A3-D4; Tenor C3-F4. (Duration: 04:09)If you liked this piece, you might also be interested in other titles in this series of Nativity Anthems by Colin Kirkpatrick, available from the same publisher: And a Star is Shining in the East, I Saw Three Ships, Three Kings from Eastern Lands and Rejoice and Sing on Christmas Morn! Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.522227 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. A Cappella,Christian,Easter,Sacred. Octavo. 13 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #4408396. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522227). My Song Is Love Unknown is a known best as a hymn by Samuel Crossman, written in 1664. It is predominantly used as a hymn for Good Friday usually in a setting by John Ireland who evidently composed it over lunch one day. This is a completely new SSA setting of Crossman’s wonderful text by Colin Kirkpatrick. In this setting there are opportunities for alto solos though they can be sung tutti if more appropriate. The keyboard part is essential though there is an a capella section in the middle. The highest note in the soprano part is one A flat above the treble staff. This is an accessible arrangement with rich harmonies and soaring melodic lines. It is sure to be a success at Easter occasions. Other SSA titles in this series of three Easter canticles are “Alone Thy goes forth, O Lord (Text by Peter Abelard 1079-1142)†and “A Time to Watch, A time to Pray (Text by John Mason Neale 1818-1866â€. In the audio sample, soprano 1 is played by the flute, soprano 2 by the oboe and alto by the clarinet.

Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1301985). This is a dramatic and attractive setting of the traditional text by Nahum Tate (1652-1715). Tate was an Anglo-Irish poet, hymn writer and lyricist, who became Poet Laureate in 1692. He’s best known for The History of King Lear, his 1681 adaptation of Shakespeare's play. He also wrote the libretto for Henry Purcell's timeless opera, Dido and Aeneas. The traditional melody of While Shepherds Watched is well-known, but this new setting brings in a wealth of new musical material. Choral Choir,Choral (SAT) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1290977 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Advent,Christian,Christmas. 12 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #881667. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1290977). This is a lively arrangement based on the traditional text. It's an English Christmas carol, which dates back at least to the 17th century. The reference to three ships is thought to originate in the those that carried the purported relics of the Biblical magi to Cologne Cathedral in the 12th century. The joyful main theme is in 7/8 time and divides into 2+2+3. This is easier than it sounds because much of the piece consists of four measures of 7/8 followed by a measure of 4/4. Singers will soon get to feel the rhythm and become familiar with this time signature. It’s scored for a fairly experienced SAT choir with keyboard accompaniment. The SAT voicing is ideal for high school or college use, where bass voices may not be available. In the reflective middle section, there are opportunities for solos, though they are optional. Audiences and singers alike are sure to enjoy this joyful music. The keyboard part is fairly straightforward though requires a competent pianist. It would be a great addition to your Christmas concert or service. (Duration: 02:50)Voice ranges are well within normal high school range: Soprano C4-F5; Alto A3-D5; Tenor C3-D4. If you like this choral piece, you might also be interested in two of the other Colin Kirkpatrick Nativity Anthems in this SAT series (also available as SSA): And a Star is Shining in the East and Three Kings from Eastern Lands. Both titles are available from the same publisher.

Choral Choir,Choral (SAT) - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1290984 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Advent,Christian,Christmas. 12 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #881674. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1290984). This is a rich and powerful setting of a familiar nativity story. The main theme is in 5/4 time (which is easier to read than some singers might imagine) and an extended middle section is in 3/2 and later 3/4. Although the piece is tonal, there’s some chromatic writing making this setting appropriate for more experienced groups of singers. The anthem contains a short a cappella section. The SAT voicing makes this arrangement suitable for competent high school or college choirs that have no bass singers. There is a short divisi section in the Soprano part. Voice ranges are as follows: Soprano D4-G5; Alto B3-D5; Tenor D3-F4.The piano part is of moderate difficulty but could be handled by any competent pianist. The anthem would make an excellent addition to any Christmas concert, Christmas service or Nativity event. If you like this choral piece, you might also be interested in the other Colin Kirkpatrick Nativity Anthems in this SAT series (also available SSA). (Duration 03:42).

Choral Choir (SAT) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1274487 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Celtic,Contest,Festival,Folk,Irish,Wedding. Octavo. 10 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #866631. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1274487). This lovely folksong is thought to have come from Scotland, though similar versions have been recorded in other parts of Britain. The song is also known as “O Waly, Waly†(it rhymes with daily) which means something like “woe is meâ€. For such an old song, it is not surprising that there are many variations of the lyrics. There are many sets of lyrics with different story-lines. This was because performers would often create new lyrics for the song. This melody has attracted a family of lyrics many of which bear little relationship to each other. The words used in this choral arrangement reflect the popular lyrics used during the twentieth century. The song was made popular by many folk singers notably Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. It has become one of the most popular folk songs today, largely because of its beautiful tune. But as with the lyrics, there are many variations on the melody with the result that no single variation can be considered the “correct†one. This SAT arrangement by Colin Kirkpatrick is ideal for school choir, amateur choir or college choir especially when there are few male voices. Each section of the choir as the melody line at some point and there are attractive and evocative counter-melodies. In the soprano part (which has one brief divisi section), the highest note is G5 (the G just above the staff, but only once). The alto part range is of B flat 3 to E5. The tenor range is D3 to D4. The music begins in E flat and modulates to C major. Running at just over three minutes, the work is sure to be popular with choir and audiences alike.Â

Choral Choir,Choral (SSA) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1296267 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship. 12 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #886511. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1296267). This is a lively arrangement based on the traditional text but a completely new melody. It’s scored for a fairly experienced SAA choir with keyboard accompaniment. The SAA voicing is ideal for high school or college use, where lower voices may not be available. The arrangement has really been conceived for boy-choir or girl-choir. In the reflective middle section, there are opportunities for solos, though they are optional. Audiences and singers alike are sure to enjoy this joyful music. The keyboard part is fairly straightforward though requires a competent pianist. It would be a great addition to your Christmas concert or service. (Duration: 03.00)Voice ranges are well within normal high school range: Soprano 1: C4-F5; Soprano 2: A3 - D5; Alto: G3- D5. If you like this choral piece, you might also be interested in two of the other Colin Kirkpatrick Nativity Anthems in this series: And a Star is Shining in the East and Three Kings from Eastern Lands.  Both titles are available from the same publisher.

Choral Choir (SAT) - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1274491 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Folk,Multicultural,Traditional,World. Octavo. 11 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #866635. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1274491). This ever-popular American folksong probably has its origins among the French Canadians who traded with Native Americans around the Great Lakes during the sixteenth century. Paddling their canoes along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers the traders were well-known for their singing. However, as most of the traders were illiterate, the songs were never written down and went through numerous changes over the years and centuries. Shenandoah became one of the most popular capstan shanties, a slow song which set a manageable pace for the crew in a heavy and lengthy task. Most versions of the song have a similar couplet at the end of each verse. In some transcriptions, the melody is written out entirely in 4/4 time; others use triple time and some arrangements use a mixture of both. In this version, the lyrics have been selected from different versions of the song. This SAT arrangement for choir and piano is intended for high school, college or amateur choir and is ideal if the number of male voices is limited. The song is set in E flat major and modulates into F major. There is only one brief divisi passage (3 measure) of sustained notes in the soprano part. The top soprano note is F5 on the top line of the treble staff and the lowest note is E â™ on the lowest line of the staff. The top alto note is Bâ™ (mid-staff) (Bâ™4) and the lowest note is B â™3. The top tenor note is D4 (middle of treble staff) and the lowest note (only twice) is the low B flat (with an optional B flat an octave higher). With a running time of 04:00 this piece is enjoyable to sing and hear. It would make a useful addition to your choir’s repertoire.Â

Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522228). The text to this new SSA setting is by Peter Abelard, the medieval French scholastic philosopher, theologian and logician. The setting gives opportunities for soprano and alto solos though they can be sung tutti if more appropriate. The keyboard part is essential though there are two a cappella sections in the arrangement. The vocal parts all lie easily within average range. The keyboard part, with its plodding bass line (which may be doubled on double bass if required) gives the impression of the slow walk of Jesus to the Cross. This is a melancholy, reflective arrangement. Other SSA titles in this series of three Easter canticles are “My Song is Love Unknown†(Text by Samuel Crossman 1624-1683) and “A Time to Watch, A time to Pray (Text by John Mason Neale 1818-1866â€. In the audio sample, soprano 1 is played by the flute, soprano 2 by the oboe and alto by the clarinet.

Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1294135). This is a really lively setting of a colorful text by Danny Alorean. The main theme is in 7/8 time, divided into 2, 2, and 3. It might look a bit daunting to some, but it's easy when counted as 1-2-1-2-1-2-3. Its recommended that singers practise this rhythm first, perhaps by clapping on the off-beats. There’s plenty of contrast in the piece and singers are sure to enjoy the music. It’s scored for SAT choir with keyboard accompaniment. It is thus a useful piece for high school or college choirs that have no bass section. The middle section uses much vocal counterpoint and has almost a waltz feeling to it. Choir members need to be reasonably experienced at singing independent vocal parts. The piano part is of moderate difficulty but could be handled by any competent pianist. This is a new arrangement (as of Seotember 2023) in which the music has been transposed down one tone from the original. This joyful anthem would be a great addition to your Christmas concert or service. The vocal range is as follows: Soprano: C4 - F5; Alto: A3 - D5; Tenor C3 - E4. (Duration 03:03).

Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #870926. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1279444). This is one of the most well-known of all British folksongs and refers to real historical events. It has been used in film and television programs and known to almost everyone in Britain. Skye (also known as “The Isle of Skyeâ€) is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides. With an area of about 640 square miles, the island is about sixty miles long and lies close to the Scottish mainland.  The boat in the song (“Speed bonny boatâ€) refers to a small sailing ship that in 1746 “carried the lad who was born to be king†to the Isle of Skye. The lad in question was Prince Charles Edward Stuart known affectionately as “Bonnie Prince Charlie.†The song also refers to the Battle of Culloden of April 1746, the last ever battle on British soil, fought between the British Army and the army of Bonnie Prince Charlie.  In June 1746 and disguised as a maid-servant, Charles was secretly transported from the Hebridean island of Benbecula to the more southerly Isle of Skye. This is the event to which the song refers. The Skye Boat Song has its roots in a traditional Gaelic melody. The lyrics in this arrangement are the familiar ones written in the 1870s by Sir Harold Edwin Boulton. This is an easy arrangement, with all vocal parts well within range and difficult leaps avoided. There are no divisi sections. The keyboard part also avoids technical hurdles. Your singers will surely enjoy this joyful melody, with its contrasting verse and attractive counter-melodies. Vocal ranges are Soprano: D4 – D5; Alto: A3 (only once) – B4; Tenor: C3 (only once) – D4.

Choral Choir (SAT) - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1274473 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contest,Festival,Folk,Multicultural,World. Octavo. 10 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #866616. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1274473). This is one of the most popular and best-loved folksongs of all time, made famous by Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan and many others. The song is thought to have originated over four hundred years ago. Scarborough Fair is in the Dorian mode and a song suitable for any happy occasion. Its celebratory quality would make it ideal for holidays, end-of-semester concerts, weddings or folk music events. There are many different versions of the lyrics and by the end of the 19th century, dozens of variants existed. In this arrangement, four of the most popular verses have been used. The repeated chorus of “parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme†is significant. In olden times, these herbs had medicinal purposes. In addition, parsley was associated with comfort, sage with strength, rosemary with love and thyme with courage. Scarborough (SKAH-buh-ruh) is an English coastal town in the county of Yorkshire. It was occupied by the Romans during the fourth and fifth centuries but today has become the largest holiday resort on the Yorkshire coast with a thriving fishing industry. In this arrangement, each section of the choir shares the melody and the voice parts avoid difficult leaps. All the vocal parts are safely within normal range. Your choir is sure to enjoy singing this rewarding arrangement. This is scored for SAT choir and ideal for high school or college use where there are often fewer lower voices. The vocal ranges are Soprano 1: D4-E5; Alto: A3 (one note)-E5 (one note); Tenor: C3-D4.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1257261 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Folk,Historic,Patriotic,Traditional. Octavo. 11 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #850592. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1257261). Here’s a new SSA choir arrangement of that ever-popular American folksong Shenandoah.  The original song probably has its origins among the French Canadians who traded with Native Americans around the Great Lakes during the sixteenth century. These traders exchanged weapons and tools for animal furs, especially beaver pelts. Paddling their canoes along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers the traders were well-known for their singing. However, as most of the traders were illiterate, the songs were never written down and went through numerous changes over the years and centuries. In most versions of the song, the lyrics tell of a seafarer, possibly a canoeing fur-trader, who was in love with the daughter of Shenandoah, a Native American Chief who lived in what is now the state of Virginia. Shenandoah was a real person: evidently an individual of commanding presence who lived for over a hundred years. This SSA arrangement for choir and piano is conceived for boy choir or girl choir and within easy technical reach of amateur or school choirs. The top soprano note is high F on the treble staff and the other parts fall well within the usual choral range. Each section of the choir takes the melody at some point. With a running time of 04:00 this piece is enjoyable to sing and hear. It’s an essential addition to your choir’s repertoire.
