Hope that Lasts is written for SAB choir with a trio and is appropriate for church services throughout the year, especially services with a theme of hope and encouragement. The message of this song is hope. The verses are intended to represent God's words to us, in which He encourages and guides us along our paths. The voicing-three individuals singing in unison-is meant to represent the three parts of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.vs. 1 I have a plan just for you,I have prepared you something new.I will protect, I will provide, I’ll always be there by your side.vs 3. Watch me and see what I do, I will take care of you. Now I want you to understand, The hopeful future I have planned.The chorus intentionally switches between singular and plural, demonstrating the importance of both an individual and a corporate relationship with God. After the last verse, the chorus changes to demonstrate that we are strengthened and assured by what He tells us. For 2 soloists, children's choir (or treble choir, or mixed choir), and piano accompaniment. Approx. 3:42.I first began writing a Christmas carol about the Covid-19 pandemic in March of 2020 when it seemed unfathomable that the global social distancing measures could last until Christmas. First drafts, therefore, were upbeat and whimsical. The song was completed in May 2020, however, and not only did it seem likely that lockdowns could extend not only to Christmas, but beyond – until a treatment or a vaccine could be found. Though obviously written with this contemporary situation in mind, Holding on for Christmas avoids direct references to remain a universal message of hope despite hopeless circumstances. Through its imagery of a Nativity story told wrong, of an individual facing unexplained solitude, and of enduring a winter in order to experience brighter days ahead, the song can apply to many cryptic or overt scenarios.

This short but poignant Communion anthem was written for and first performed in a Maundy Thursday service. The choir being not a large one, with no tenors, the voices designated are SAB and accompanied by piano. The piano writing integrates the accompaniment into the texture and the lyrical setting of the text. This piece is designed to be practical, easy to learn, and rewarding to sing, all of which is accomplished without sacrificing artistic integrity or writing down for the choral forces. Rather, the unison/octave writing at the beginning and the return of that sonority for the third section are coloristic devices to reinforce the text. The middle section makes full use of the capabilities and ranges of the three-part mixed choir format. The musical setting underscores the Hope of Redemption on the Eve of the Crucifixion at the Last Supper. The piece is equally suitable for any Communion Sunday throughout the Church year.

The soprano range is from middle c to the second d above middle c . The alto sings from the first a below middle c to the second d above middle c. The bass runs from the first c below middle c to the the first e above middle c. The piece lasts about one minute and 15 seconds if you perform it at the tempo marked. It is not a difficult piece for the singers or for the accompanist; neither is it boring. There is enough repetition of musical ideas to make the piece attainable to most choirs, but also enough variety to make it interesting for more advanced choirs as well as audiences.
