Published by Adrian D Biggs (A0.882273). Agnus dei for High Voice Solo, Violin Solo, SAB Chorus and Organ uses as an inspiration the melody from the aria Ombra mai fú from Handel’s opera Serse. The long, lyrical melody borne forward by the steady, quiet, powerful accompaniment conveys a tranquil sacredness. The sense of entreaty and desire for benediction expressed in the Agnus Dei seems a natural fit with Handel’s famous melody. An instrumental introduction leads to the voice calling out agnus dei, qui tollis peccata mundi. An instrumental meditation follows leading back to the conclusion of the piece. Arrangements for other ensembles are also available (Vocal Solo, SSA, SAB, SATB) as well as separate versions featuring the addition of Solo Violin, Flute, Oboe or Clarinet and soloist with chorus. Difficulty is moderate for the singers, violin and organ. Suitable for a sacred setting or the concert hall. Duration approximately 4 minutes. Score and part included. Also available with piano in place of organ.

Kim Stafford’s poignant poem of the same name tells the story of a young woman living alone in a remote corner of the world. She witnesses remarkable images of a rainbow over the moon and stars showing through the rain showers. She yearns to share these beautiful experiences with another person. The piece sets the choruses of the poem, which start in a lonely mood and subtly evolve, giving the listener the hope of being lifted into a sharing relationship with another soul. The electronic track weaves natural and synthesized elements together, creating a dreamlike soundscape evoking the night sky. The emotive arpeggiated melody line alternates between minor and major tonality, capturing her melancholic yet hopeful yearning to share this sublime moment with somebody else. The driving percussion elements represent the pitter-patter of rain drops. This is a tuneful and attractive setting of words by Danny Alorean, looking at the town of Bethlehem through the eyes of travelers who are going to see the child Jesus. The main melody is set is 8/8 time which naturally divides into groups of 3+2+3. The middle section is at first contrapuntal then more lyrical and in 4/4. It is more suitable for experienced singers. The work is scored for SAT choir with keyboard accompaniment which makes it ideal for high school and college choirs with no bass section. There are no divisi sections, but several opportunities for optional solos and the piano part is of medium difficulty but could be managed by any competent pianist. This piece would be ideal for a Christmas concert or part of a Christmas service. The vocal ranges are as follows: Soprano C4-G5; Alto A3-D4; Tenor C3-F4. If you are looking to highlight your women's group and feature soloists from within the ensemble, this women's-choir-friendly piece is a harmonically interesting and pianistically supported way to explore those textures.The composer writes: I often find it difficult to find music for grown women: much treble repertoire is written for children's ranges and feature children's themes, and the remainder seems to be about romantic relationships. When searching for a text that speaks to the nature of a woman, I found Emily Dickinson's little-known For largest Woman's Heart I knew. It seemed to pair naturally with Heart! We will forget him! and provide context rooted in personal strength.While Dickinson was a prolific private poet, fewer than a dozen of her nearly 1,800 poems were published during her lifetime, usually altered significantly to fit the conventional poetic rules of the time. A complete, and mostly unaltered, scholarly collection of her poetry first became available five full years after Aaron Copland's musical settings of her poetry.
