This is a tuneful and attractive setting of words by Danny Alorean, looking at the town of Bethlehem through the eyes of travelers who are going to see the child Jesus. The main melody is set is 8/8 time which naturally divides into groups of 3+2+3. The middle section is at first contrapuntal then more lyrical and in 4/4. It is more suitable for experienced singers. The work is scored for SAT choir with keyboard accompaniment which makes it ideal for high school and college choirs with no bass section. There are no divisi sections, but several opportunities for optional solos and the piano part is of medium difficulty but could be managed by any competent pianist. This piece would be ideal for a Christmas concert or part of a Christmas service. The vocal ranges are as follows: Soprano C4-G5; Alto A3-D4; Tenor C3-F4. Altos and Baritone/Basses take the melody for the most part. Sopranos largely join with the melody in verses and add a single line descant in choruses until later in the song which is in full 3-4 part harmony (Soprano divisi) and where Soprano 1 soars upwards bringing that tingle factor to this uplifting and energetic rock song. The awe and mystery of the night of all nights is never more exemplified than in this setting of Silent Night for women's chorus and organ (or piano) and optional handbells. Beginning at a hushed pianissimo, the dynamics grow to a glorious fortissimo at the close of the third verse. This setting features the sopranos in unison on the first verse. Three-part women sing the second and third with minimal divisi into four-part harmony. After the climax, the work diminishes to the quiet solemnity heard at the beginning. This piece is sure to be the highlight of any holiday program or worship service. An SATB version of the piece is available from Beautiful Star Publishing.

This song tells a story about Alfonso XII, King of Spain from December 1874 until his death in November 1885. It is a song tale known in many Latin American countries. As is typical of folk songs, there are many popular variations and additional verses. Where are you going, Alfonso XII? Where are you going so sadly? It might sound tricky but singers will soon get to feel the rhythm and become completely at home in this time signature. It’s scored for SSA choir with keyboard accompaniment. In the middle section, sopranos are divisi and there are opportunities for solos though they are optional. Audiences and singers alike are sure to enjoy this joyful music and the keyboard part is fairly straightforward. It would be a great addition to your Christmas concert or service.
