Text by Pulitzer Prize winning American poet Sara Teasdale (1884-1933). A pensive, reflective, universal coming of age theme; perhaps written with WW I in mind; it rings as true today with our current wars. The poem's optimism doesn't fully resonate until the last verse, indeed the last line. The music develops from the melody in the first verse, heard in sixths, in Em, around a pedal tone: the constancy of the heavens. The melody is heard again, but this time simultaneously inverted. When the stars are mentioned, we move from minor to major. In the 3rd verse, about the innocence of childhood, all voices move together into three-part harmony in major keys (with a subtle key shift in the third line). The last verse includes the lyric All things are changed, save in the east.. It begins with all voices singing the inverted melody in harmony; it goes from E major, to G major, and concludes with the melody un-inverted, in E major.

It's an English Christmas carol, which dates back at least to the 17th century. The reference to three ships is thought to originate in the those that carried the purported relics of the Biblical magi to Cologne Cathedral in the 12th century.The joyful main theme is in 7/8 time and divides into 2+2+3. This is easier than it sounds because much of the piece consists of  four measures of 7/8 followed by a measure of 4/4. Singers will soon get to feel the rhythm and become familiar with this time signature. It’s scored for a fairly experienced SAA choir with keyboard accompaniment. The SAA voicing is ideal for high school or college use, where lower voices may not be available. The arrangement has really been conceived for boy-choir or girl-choir. In the reflective middle section, there are opportunities for solos, though they are optional. Audiences and singers alike are sure to enjoy this joyful music. The keyboard part is fairly straightforward though requires a competent pianist. It would be a great addition to your Christmas concert or service. This is a tuneful and attractive setting of words by Danny Alorean, looking at the town of Bethlehem through the eyes of travelers who are going to see the child Jesus. The main melody is set is 8/8 time which naturally divides into groups of 3+2+3. The middle section is at first contrapuntal then more lyrical and in 4/4. It is more suitable for experienced singers. The work is scored for SAT choir with keyboard accompaniment which makes it ideal for high school and college choirs with no bass section. There are no divisi sections, but several opportunities for optional solos and the piano part is of medium difficulty but could be managed by any competent pianist. This piece would be ideal for a Christmas concert or part of a Christmas service. The vocal ranges are as follows: Soprano C4-G5; Alto A3-D4; Tenor C3-F4. It might sound tricky but singers will soon get to feel the rhythm and become completely at home in this time signature. It’s scored for SSA choir with keyboard accompaniment. In the middle section, sopranos are divisi and there are opportunities for solos though they are optional. Audiences and singers alike are sure to enjoy this joyful music and the keyboard part is fairly straightforward. It would be a great addition to your Christmas concert or service. Tate was an Anglo-Irish poet, hymn writer and lyricist, who became Poet Laureate in 1692. He’s best known for The History of King Lear, his 1681 adaptation of Shakespeare's play. He also wrote the libretto for Henry Purcell's timeless opera, Dido and Aeneas. The traditional melody of While Shepherds Watched is well-known, but this new setting brings in a wealth of new musical material. This is a tuneful work and is sure to be enjoyed by your singers and audiences alike. It is in 2/2 time throughout but journeys through several contrasting keys. It’s also available for SSA and SATB choirs with keyboard accompaniment.  There’s an a cappella section in the middle and more suited to experienced singers. It is designed to be the connective tissue between the sorrowful nature of Good Friday and the excited happiness of Easter morning! It tells of the opening of the grave and the realization that He is Risen! The choral parts are set as more of a duet/accompaniment to the cello, rather than the central focus, so make sure the cello is the star in this wonderful feature. There are also transpositions of the solo part for Violin and Viola included.
